Buy vs Wait : 2012 vs 2013
Ok so I was about to drop off a deposit for a custom factory ordered 2012 GT/CS. Then I did a little more reading and stumbled upon the upcoming LA auto show and forthcoming 2013 updates. As a result I have several worrisome questions which once answered my quell my fears about making a purchase right now:
1. Will the 2013 GT likely cost more than current 2012 GT pricing? 2. Is it likely that all rebates will cease to exist for new the lineup? 3. Will the 2013 *unveiling* drive down prices for 2012 models? 4. Will the 2013 *release* drive down prices for 2012 models? 5. Is ford even delivering new GT orders right now? I think I read somewhere that any orders placed today wont even be processed until January! Can someone please lend some credence to this? I certainly dont want to place an order for a vehicle that usually takes 6-8 weeks, only to have it drag out to 5-6 MONTHS due to poor timing. As you can see a lot of this comes down to simple budgetary concerns. If the 2013 model is going to cost more pound for pound than the 2012 model then I'll be happy to get my '12, as it's all I can afford. IF however the 2013 models will cost the same, then I would feel foolish for not waiting to make my purchase on a vehicle that's about to diminish in value. And again I cant stress how upset I would be if I placed an order today and had to wait an unusually long amount of time due to Ford's internal scheduling system. Please let me know if Ford is building/delivering vehicles on a regular schedule as they always would. Thanks for the help guys. |
Personally? I wouldn't do anything until I'd seen the '13MY. You've only got 4 weeks or so to wait.
Can't imagine the price will go up by mutch.......although you might be able to pick up a great deal on a '12 as they try to shift the last of these models. Good luck :) |
By the way for anyone who responds, keep in mind I'm not concerned with the styling so much as the price. I dont want to find out the 2013 models cost exactly the same as the 2012 models. If the '13 is likely gonna cost an extra 2-3k just because it's a newer car then I'm totally happy buying a '12 today. I just dont want to miss any "free" upgrades if you know what I mean.

You'll definitely be able to deal harder on a 2012... especially if you're in an area that gets cold in the winter.
That said, if I were buying now, I would definitely hold off to see the 2013. It should offer some nice improvements. |
ORDERED! Just gave them a deposit moments ago.
2012 Mustang GT Premium - Black Automatic Transmission California Special Package 402A HID & Security Package PowerCode Remote Start system -------------------------------------------- $33,770 out the door all taxes, fee's, and rebates included. I'm glad someone mentioned the CS might not even be available, that was a good point. Considering '13 models will have little to no rebates and have longer delivery times, plus costing a little more being a brand new model I opted for the '12 afterall. I have set my countdown timer to 6-8 weeks, lets do this! |
for your criteria (price) you made the right choice :nice:
|
That didn't take long lol. Nice choice! Those are some options I wish I had.
|
I was gonna say to hold it off till you see what the 13's look like. But i guess it is too late. You'll love the car, congrats.

Why bother posting, if you're going to order it the same day... ?
2013 will be far better 2012 tech wise. and probably for most, sharper looks. I would have at least waited the 20 some odd days... to see the 2013. |
do both! its more funner
|
I guess all he needed was a push.

I think you made a good choice. You would've paid full price on the 13 probably, minus x plan or similar. I did kinda the same thing when the 12's just came out. I really wanted to order a 12 but ended up getting a great deal on my 11. Next time I'll order mine the way I want though.

Worst case, the order comes in and he changes his mind. The dealer will sell it. It's not like there are any crazy options on it.

I couldnt resist. I didnt see any huge compelling reasons not to. Also didnt want to risk having to wait an unusually longer period of time due to holidays/ford prepping assembly for new model etc. I got the impression a delivery on a 2013 would take longer than average compared to current 2012's.

Personally, I don't know if he could of ordered, he didn't buy off the lot, a 2012 car with all the rebates and such. Once they start rolling the 2013's off the line, he would of been stuck buying a 12 off a lot somewhere not knowing if he would be able to get the color and options he wanted.
And that's not a bad price. My Mustang is a Race Red 400A with Security package, 3.55 gears, HID's, Comfort Package (Leather, dual power seats, heated seats, etc...) 19" wheels (which adds the STB) and rear video as options. I ordered the car exactly as I wanted it. It's MSRP was a tick below $37k. USAA price was $32,750 OTD. I don't blame you for pulling the trigger on it. |
Just curious, what is the USAA Price?

I'm not going to read all this stuff so I say "wait" since you cant go wrong either way. When the 2013's hit dealers will be looking to clear 2012 inventory and the deals will be out there and if the 2013's bring something really good to the table then you can spend your money that way to.
Personally I'd say wait till the 2014's hit and see how it goes. |
