I couldn't find anything like this on the first two or three pages, so here it is. My vote goes for the 1st, specifically, 68 to 70 models.
|
this should be easy
best is first gen, 1964.5 to 1973, worst is the mustang II 1974 to 1978, |
I said the 1994-2004 to be the best so far.
1994 revived the classic stang cues and the decade ended with the fastest mustangs of all time we had the 2000 Cobra R the 2003-04 Mach 1 and the 2003-04 Cobra. Definatly a great time to be a mustang fan. I chose 1979-1993 to be the worst. I know most will choose the 1974-1978 but it wasn't fords fault that the economy went sour. they were good looking cars that retained some mustang style. But the 1979-1993 were just boxes on wheels...fast boxes but they still didn't get your blood pumping with excitment when you look at them like the generations before and the newer gens. |

are you serious,, check out the mustang II from this website,, http://www.mustangii.org/ those are nice?? man even if they were fast they'd still suck,, the body style is so ugly, you might be confused by what they look like,, ----------------------- WE have an 05+ hater in the forum,, some one voted that the worst gen are the 05+ (this message is not related with the message above,,) |
I find the fox body (79-93) to be the least appealing, because it looks the least like a mustang. At least the Mustang II looked like a mustang. It just didn't run like a mustang.
I've said it before, but the 1979-90 2.3L (88-90Hp) is my all time least favorite mustang. |
Went with the 64 1/2 - 73 Mustangs because those cars are what made the Mustang's reputation. Shelby GT350, GT 500, Boss, Mach 1... etc. The next choice would be the Fox body since it pretty much made "5.0" a household term and ushered in the birth of SVT (from SVO) and resulted in the Cobra.

I find it impossible to vote on a poll like this. When you vote for a worst something you will offend rhe owner of that year, what's the point! All of the Mustangs have thier good and bad points and all of them have owners who either love them the way they are or modify them to suit their taste. In short, there is no worst, and no best, just the one you have,no matter what year.Enjoy them all , stick with one ,or get several if you are inclined. I don't have any more garage space.

Can't do this poll, because all generations have offered the buying public improvements over the previous models. I personally have spent many hours inside Mustang II's and find them to be a very enjoyable car, not a bad car at all! I have owned Foxes and Fox 4 cars too that are great. If I HAD to make a pick of the best, it would prob be '94-'04 simply because I have the most experience with these Mustangs, and thats the only reason behind that selection.

199, so you dont like the IIs. thats your opinion, and thats just fine. but dont try to push it onto other members. how a car looks is personal preference, an opinion, not cold hard fact.
stop being such a jerk I happen to like the IIs best. i love the way they look and i like the fact that they are a good handling, lightweight platform with tons of potential. they're a great mix of classic feel with the modern touches of say, a fox (to some extent) and whats with the "if they were fast..." in case you dont know, a 1975 302 Mustang II was on par with the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times of a 1965 289 mustang. please note that both cars had similar wieghts and two barrel carbs, BUT the '75 still had loads of govt required smog equiptment attached yet still managed to keep up sure they weren't screamers like the bosses machs and shelbys of old, but they werent a honda civic by any means. i do understand that you may not like how they look, but that doesnt mean they "suck". i dont get why people bother to bash other cars. who cares if you dont like something. do you expect everyone else to dislike the looks of the II justbecause you do? whats the point of all your bashing? hmm... oh right! you dont have one. keep it to yourself. theres plenty of other members here who dont like the IIs that much (as you can see from the votes), but at least they're being mature about it... as opposed to you. anyhow, back to the topic, i actually put the 94-04 stangs as the worst. not because i dont like them, but because i see so many of them and because theyre my least favorite. i dont dislike them, i just like the others more i would have liked this poll better without the "worst" part. |
Well said Arin. I'd have to say the best mustangs were the 60's era cars..69 to be exact. But on a styling point I'd agree 100% with Chris..the Foxes were the worst styled by a long shot and I owned an 82 gt
I do and always will have a soft spot for the II's. It really funny that after the '68 the II's were the only ones to keep with the mustang tradition and body style until the 2005 came along. The II's are directly responsible for keeping the mustang name alive. It more than likly would now be dead. Granted there weren't performance monster but they were small, nimble, and could fit any and all 302 based block under the hood without any modifications at all. Which made them fantastic for upgrading. Long live the II's!!!!!!!!! |
I think the 94 was the first since the 78 to bring back the traditional mustang look. It had the side scoops like the original. The 96 improved on this with the vertical 3 lens tail lights. Obviously the 05 looks even more like the original.

Ouch, no love for the fox here eh guys? While i will admit that it may not be the prettiest car out there (by a long shot), or have as much of that 'classic stang' look as some of the newer ones, they are some of the most badarse looking cars on the road.
I believe (could be mistaken) that they were among the best selling mustangs of all time? Light, fast, cheap, and very easy to make blindingly fast. And thats my explanation for the foxs only vote. |

I dont like the foxes as much as the other mustangs for the same reason as stated above. It just never really appealed to me. The four eyes were pretty cool though. |
I’ll throw a ‘monkey wrench’ into this thread. I voted that the 2005+ are the worst.
Now, now, before I’m hung by the S197 faithful let me preface my reasoning. First, let me say I love ALL generations and no one can argue with the fact that the S917s are FANTASTIC.. BUT . . . with it only being in it’s second model year I reasoned that until we see the GT500, GT/CS ON the showroom floors we’re stuck (I use that term loosely!) with GT, and V6’s. Flame away, but by no means am I trying to say anything negative about the S197’s. Just having some fun with this poll. And don’t be hatin’ on the II’s and Foxes!!
