On my last poll, the Mustang V6 defeated the Hyundai Tiburon SE by a landslide. Now comes another FWD competitor in the form of the all-new Mitsubishi Eclipse GT. It may have more horsepower (263 bhp @ 5750 rpm), but is it worth buying over a Mustang?

Well the Eclipse would win in a Race against the Mustang V6.
I don't care for the looks of the Eclipse, so I'd stick to Mustang.

Besides I say compare GT to GT since they are both in similar price range
Those have about $5-7k on us. (similarly optioned)

Car and Driver did, and the GT has a completely unfair advantage over the Eclipse on just about everything - acceleration, braking, roadholding and fuel economy.

But you got a point - the Eclipse is way overpriced for a FWD coupe. And you'd think Mitsubishi would make it AWD with such a wide rear end...

Oops, I voted for the eclipse before i read the thing, i thought it was a race, not which one you would take. Scratch one vote from the eclipse and put it on the stang.

Truly, for being Mitsubishi's do-or-die car, they sure could have picked a better price pool to go fishing for takers. $26k for a FWD sporty coupe, when the Stang GT, RX-8, 350Z, SRT-4, WRX etc etc are already at market? Brilliant business plan Mitsu. Not to mention, the new Eclipse is heavy as depleted uranium for that type of car.

If $26k bought us a lighter, turboed (~320hp/tq) and AWD GSX version, I'm sure people would be all over that. It'd be the modern day VR-4, except not too heavy, too slow, and too expensive.

Hold your horses guys! The V6 Stang with just a mere 75 Shot would eat the Eclipse alive.. Granted, the Ecplise is a very nice car.. But FWD cars just dont do it for me.. Actually, you could sell the Eclipse for $15K with a Factory 750HP Twin Turbo Charged engine, and I would still think its a waste of money.. Now if it was AWD, then thats a different story.. Dont mean to offend anyone.. I just dont see any fun in FWD cars, except to see much you got to punch it, to see the front wheels skid while trying to turn the car..

LOL! And you cant even do that! LOL!

Its almost like this...

You ever go to Las Vegas, and sit down at a resturaunt and order some pancakes at around 1am? Well, then the lady walks up and ask you if you would like to play Keno? Your real hungry, and won a few slots, so you say yeah ok lady...

She drops the Keno card on the table and you plop down 20 bucks.. Well, while your eating the pancakes, you think to yourself about how good they are, and how much you really love Vegas.. You get to about your last couple of bites, and feel stuffed... You start to think that those pancakes really sucked bad, and you wish you did not order them.. Around that time, you find out you also lost an additional 20 bucks, because your numbers never came up.. LOL!!

Thats about how I would feel buying a FWD car, unless it was strictly for the commute, in which case a 5 to 6 year old bucket would suit just fine..

I kinda like the Mitsu....but for the price...no way. I like the leather/suade seat option...but not for the price. Way over priced...and, as said before, to heavy.
Hey, anybody ever get final 2005 production numbers for the Mustang?

V6 vs V6 heck I would go with Eclipse, but for the price of Eclipse you can get Mustang GT.

One thing I don't like about the new Eclipse is its limited range of colors. The Mustang V6 looks good on any of its 10 colors. The Eclipse, on the other hand, only looks good in Sunset Pearlescent, Titanium Pearl and Ultra Red Pearl. (Silver, White and Black don't count, as they go with any car).

clearly the gt eclipse is going to win in a race which isint really a suprise considering the large diffefence in hp. but i wasent to impressed with the new look of the eclipse, although it is nice on the inside, i sat in it at the miami car show and it has a real race car feel and a forward lean to the car. over all i think i'd take the v6 for looks eclipse for perfomance.

The Eclipse is fugly... The only advantage I think it would have on the v6 stang is weight...

personally i belive the stang would burst out of the line.. but of course with the horses.. the GT will pull ahead.. So I think the Stang in the Quarter. (This is based on rumors that the GT Eclipse is running a six speed 0-60 at like 6 Seconds and the Stang 5.7-.8
So I dnno anyone have real stats??

From what I know the Eclipse can pull a high 5 sec run from 0-60, and our V6 can do it in about high 6 secs.
For the 1/4 the Eclipse is said to run about solid mid 14's, we do it in solid low 15's.
But as I've said, this is a competitor to our GT, not the V6. Besides we can run 14's with an intake & tune B)

Hey after all, the front wheels are for steering, not for (how should i call it) moving the car. Leave that to the rear wheels.

And don't forget, the Eclipse is oddly porportioned
