Stock vs Stock,
I think new Mustang, a buddy of mine goes 12.6, Stock even stock rubber. @ 111

cpotts13 5/28/12 12:09 PM

I'd say the cobra.... it makes more hp and weighs less....

Cobra average dyno pretty similar 360-370 rwhp, Weighs less, But a drag race with same driver would most likely go to 13 I thing, MotorTrend, Car and Driver ran 12.9

12-13 average 12.8 ..I would race drivers race.

thats probably the best answer. With similar money put into both the cobra would win. But stock to stock it would be a good race.

Mustang Mafia 5/28/12 01:05 PM

I went 12.80's in my stock 2012 not sure if the cobra went sub 13's stock or not. I have a 93 tune and cai and now go 12.teens-12.20's. I think a pullied cobra will turn 11's on drag radials. These cars seem pretty darn close that's why I wanted to see what opinions or experiences were out there. I love the Cobras too so no hate here.

skunk21 5/28/12 01:09 PM

I would take the cobra but like stated the race is close. If the cobra had a straight axle forget it the '13 would be done. the irs gives up some on the launch. take a look at some of the times on a rear swapped '03/'04 cobra, they are mean let alone modded.

MustangBillJr 5/30/12 08:31 AM

I think the 5.0 stock for stock has the Cobra beat in everything. It's the total package that sold me on the 11+ Mustangs.

When I was looking for another stang around this time last year, it came down to an 11+ 5.0 and buying my uncle's KB powered 600hp Cobra... It was a hard decision until the wifey said just go get a Boss!!!! I know it's not going to hang with his terminator, but again the total package is what sold me on the new mustangs.

New Boss or rode hard 10 year old vehicle?.... great choice

AlsCobra 5/30/12 10:36 AM

New 5.0 should take a stock terminator in a drag race by just a little. Modded terminator will hold 600-700hp on a stock bottom end. New 5.0 will not. Boss motor will hold that power also.

sampey43 5/30/12 10:36 AM

If we are talking drag race, im taking the cobra

AlsCobra 5/30/12 10:39 AM

New 5.0 hooks pretty good. Race from a roll the terminator should take him.

Yeah, the powder coated connecting rods are the coyotes weak point. Granted, I've seen coyotes hold 500 rwhp easily but yeah, trying to hold 700 would be worth a YouTube video explosion .

skunk21 5/30/12 10:54 AM

I wouldn't rule out a car just because it has age, plenty of new stuff out there that is rode pretty hard.

yep, there is a comp orange one by me I want so bad. I don't really now the guy and it is in the garage 90% of the time. He bought it new, it is totally stock and I have only seen it out a few time that is all I really know about it. I have invited him to a few events and to some mccne meetings but he keeps to himself, to each his own but bad azz car. we have a few nasty ones in our club though.

I been planning on purchasing a gt500 but i been doing alot of thinking and right now there just to much!!! I know i can find a nice terminator, save some money, and at the same time enjoy the heck out of it!!!

Comp orange terminator is a gorgeous color. Orange vert is almost impossible to find and are big $$$$$ when you find one.

Sonic blue cobra is definitely the best color for them.

I love sonic blue but only on a coupe, the black top messes up the color on verts imo

gregtommy 5/30/12 03:30 PM

As long as you keep the boost pressure under 10 psi the stock bottom of the new 5.0 will hold up just fine. I am running 9 psi which generates an est. 620 rwhp. (dyno run tomorrow). Not using myself as a comparison here but other guys I have read that have over 20k with less then 10
psi. Overall though it is cheaper to buy a cobra and make it faster especially if you went with a new 5.0. I invested 7300 to supercharge my 5.0 and a cobra just needs smaller pulleys and upgraded fuel system components to reach my hp level.

Would love to see what kind of time that thing would turn in the 1/4 with stickies as well.

Yeah I have to price them with skinners up front. I am expecting high 10s with this set up, and if that is the case they will probably tell me to roll cage it. Which wouldn't be a problem but I am leaning more toward keeping it a show car vice turning it into a quarter mile demon.

It just depends on the track man. If you just throw some drag radials on the back, keep your street rims up front and back, you have a good chance of them not saying anything because it doesn't look like a drag car (10 second car rather ). I'd save your money. I ran 10.80's in my notch back with 15"pony rims 255 Mickey Thompson et drag radials . Those things stick like glue. 255's held 1.55 short times. Good luck.
