Supercharging the 5.0 N/A Coyote
 
Folks,

Any thoughts on super-charging the N/A 5.0L Gen 2 Coyote? what of the 11:1 compression? I ask because I have a very tempting offer on one, but really want to install the 700HP Roush kit on top.

Grateful for your feedback and apologise in advance if this has been asked and/or a newbie question (hey, I just joined!)

Are you asking in regards to general use, or motor sports applications?

if for general use there are a number of members with similar setups. You can find plenty of threads under the 10-14 section, and in the 5.0 modifications section. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for your response. Glad to be on the forums.

Though a project car, this is definitely going to be a road going car, so great advice to check the 10-14 section - will do.

What I was wondering is how well the 5.0 NA versions receive the Roush superchargers given then 11:1. My line of thought and preference is to be able to offer two variants: a naturally aspirated version with the 5.0 NA engine as-is, and a supercharged version with the same NA engine Roush'ed, rather than going for the 5.0 435BHP engine and supercharging that.

My understanding is quite well. The lower compression becomes more of an advantage with higher boost. But for stage 1 or 2 you should be ok. Lots more knowledgeable folks on the topic here for sure good luck!

Check out "Department of Boost" web page and FB group, they have a lot of practical info on supercharging these cars.

When you say "road going" I am not sure if you mean road track or street . . . be ware for road track car, heat buildup with supercharger can make the overheating problems that these cars have N/A worse; and you don't really want the extra weight of the supercharger on the nose. For a road track car I would put my money a lot of other places first.

The aim is to make a street car, able to partecipate in the occasional track day without trouble.

From Monster's reply and what I'm seeing on the 10-14 forums, looks like I have a good starter for ten. I'll keep this thread posted and publish a full write up in the appropriate forum section as the project progresses.

Hey, as Bert said a blower will not help you that much at the road course. It will likely cause more overheating issues actually. These cars benefit greatly at the track from suspension and brake upgrades. I've been up against Roush cars at road course before, and the only place you could tell was on the straights, but those cars suffered in corners and in the brake zones, so lap times were same as my NA car.
