Anyone use American Muscle DD Bullitt's at the track?
I have a set of 18x9 / 18x10 DD Bullitt wheels I bought from American Muscle several years ago. I've started to track the car in NASA (road courses) and need to run something better than my 20" Shelby Razor's and street tires. Going to throw some R compound tires onto an 18" wheel and since I have these already, it would save me some wheel money. I remember several years ago a guy on here got into an accident and hit a curb, the spokes completely separated from the wheel, which obviously makes me nervous. Heard lots of discussion about them being cheap Chinese made wheels, etc. but I have no idea if that is true. You really beat hard on the car in the corners and I sure don't want to have a wheel failure at speed. Has anyone ever run these or could anyone talk me off of the ledge and talk me into running these without fear?

I understand your concern. I got a great deal on some steeda wheels last summer with the intent of getting a slicks setup in addition to my street tire track setup. I went through the same debate regarding would the wheels be ok with slicks
I ended up selling the wheels because I questioned the strength of the castings. I would do the same wih yours... I currently have a set of 09 gt500 18x9.5 wheels that I run and also a set of enkei pf01's which are very popular with the boss guys as light track wheels. I'm very confident in both these setups and I would suggest if you want to run slicks to get a reputable set of wheels for them. A used set of gt500 wheels would be a good cheap option and while they are heavy they are also indestructible. Forgestars and enkei seem to have some good lightweight ones if you have a bit more to spend |

Hey Azou, I completely understand your concerns but luckily, I can tell you not to worry. We have plenty of customers using these wheels at the track! We do source wheels from various manufacturers but we do rigorous structural/abrasion testing on the wheels which is why we can offer a lifetime warranty on the structure of the wheel and a year warranty on the finish! Just to help out some more, check out this wheel below. I snapped this picture for you after stealing the wheel from our training room . http://[IMG]http://i59.tinypic.com/2ngvdp0.jpghttp://i59.tinypic.com/2ngvdp0.jpg Hope this clears up some confusion and feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I'm just a PM away! -Will |
good to hear but those look like machined cuts :-)

Can't PM you, only public messages. I will try to call you tomorrow, appreciate you taking the time to speak with me on this. I tried my best to ensure that I wasn't trashing the reputation of AM or the wheels, was not my intent. Just concerns based on what I read from people a while back and wanting to get comfortable with the wheels I have under the stress of track days.
