Thumbs up

I will be leaving the country for 3 weeks and there really isn't anyone that I trust to leave my car with while I'm gone. I live in an apartment that has underground parking.

I've searched around on the net but only found instructions on how to store your car for long periods of time (several months). This leads me to believe that I don't have to do anything special when leaving it for 3 weeks.

I'm planning to get some desiccant sacs (Dry-Pac) to put inside the car because the garage is a bit on the humid side. And I'm going to leave it with a full tank of gas.

Anything else any of you would recomend doing if the car is going to sit unused for 3 weeks???

Also I plan to get the windows tinted just before I leave, so that I won't be stuck driving around with the windows up for several days.

3 weeks is nothing to worry about and would not be considered "long term storage". If you leave the windows up, when you return, it will smell brand new again

It wouldn't hurt to make sure the tires have good pressure, and I'd put gas stabilizer in the tank. As you say, three weeks isn't a very long time. A cover would be nice too, if you can lock it.

I think you're going overboard but a car cover wouldn't be a bad idea. No need to lock it, it's not made out of titanium.

You don't need to do anything. I just stored my car for three months. I came back and the car started right up and the tires held their pressure.

Trust me.

wow... 4 posts before someone offered to "babysit" my car. Everyone who knows me has been asking to watch my car for me while I'm gone. It's almost like clockwork that the first thing people ask when I tell them i'm leaving is "What are you doing with your car?"

The only other thing I'm worried about is the Motion sensers in the Active Anti Theft draining the battery. So I think I just won't activate those (if I remember).

Thanks for the input.

It's rained for the last 3 weeks here and my car hasn't been out of the garage. I just took it out today... wow it's great to be back in that car! Pick up a 'California Duster' and that'll be all you need.

...on that note...
Wash your car before you leave. Bird crap sitting on your paint for 3 weeks wouldn't be good for your clear coat.

One last thing. You mentioned having your windows tinted before you leave. Ask your tinter... some will tell you to leave the car parked in the sun to help dry any tiny bubbles in the tint.
Hope that helps!

Things to do for 3-weeks, well park it in the best available location you can. Washed with a Car Cover would be nice. Lock the doors. Have a safe trip and enjoy.
