Today I washed my new GT for the first time. As I was drying her off with a towel I noticed that some parts of the car have a rough feeling when you rub your fingers across the finish. It feels rough and not smooth like the majority of the car. I am concerned. Could it be that the clearcoat wasn't thick enough? Should I try and polish it? What causes this? It is a brand new car. WTH

Another thing I found is that the clearcoat was drippy on the seams of the drivers side wheel wells. So when the clearcoat dried it left what looks like hardened drips. So when I run my fingers along the wheel well it feels rough and a little bumpy. This doesn't bother me alot because it is not visible unless your really looking hard for it but it does make me wonder what is up with the Ford Paint.

I live across the street from my dealer so I walked over there today and checked on a couple other Mustangs and two of the four they had were the same.

I have to say the paint has been a dissapointment on all of my 'Stangs (4 since '94).

Try a claybar on the rough spots. There's a ton of info on the Zaino site on using claybars. And, you can order one there.

you can buy claybars usually at any place that sells wax. I'm pretty sure a claybar is a claybar.

Its funny how we notice thing after the fact. I washed mine today and noticed the hood is very slightly off alignment. No big deal but I think the quality of foreign cars is still more consistant. Just my 2cts. Overall this is the best American car I have owned.

Definitely use a claybar. I was amazed at the difference, both on my Stang and the wife's explorer.
