Hey guys, just a quick question.
My dad always takes his car to the one car wash, and after they wash it they detail the interior. They apply something to the dash that makes it appear "shinier" than what it looked like stock. Is there any way to make it look like the factory "dullness" again?
Thanks,
Colin.

Sounds like they put armor all or some type of silicone product on it. As Galaxie said, use a rag with some soap and water to clean the dash. Make sure you wipe it down with a wet rag after to get rid of any soap residue. If you do want to use some sort of protectant, well, Armor all does make a "satin" product for interiors. It doesn't give that shiny look.

After you get that crap off of there, try aerospace301. Its not sticky, and doesnt shine, just a black luster and dust removed. keeps the dust off fairly well also. works great on the black trim around the radio to. armorall just smears here.

I use it for all the black interior and exterior trim. aside from the leather seats.

I hate Armor All. It leaves everything shiny and a dust magnet. I think I will give aerospace301 a shot. At least the name is cool.

Yes, Armorall sucks for your interior (IMO). Way too shiny, and I'm not a fan of shiny stuff near my windshield. I use Meguires Mist and Wipe, Quick Interior Detailer. It has a slight fresh/clean scent, not perfume, and a very clean natural glow. ( my God, I should sell shampoo).
Seriously though, it's good stuff.

From Meguiar's:

Quik Interior Detailer

The fastest way to clean all interior surfaces. Use every time you wash or Quik Detail your paint to give your interior that “just detailed” look. In just 5 additional minutes, your entire interior will look sharp and smell fresh. Quickly and easily maintains the look and feel of interior plastics, vinyl, leather, rubber, metal and even audio/video equipment. The safe, high lubricity formula lifts off dust, ashes, dirt, grime, spills and fingerprints without build-up. And, unlike traditional protectants that leave an artificial greasy feeling, Quik Interior Detailer leaves your interior surfaces looking natural and revitalized. Simply spray on, spread evenly with an Ultra Plush Super Terry or Supreme Shine Microfiber and turn to a dry section of the towel for the final wipe off.

Does the Aerospace301 only work on black interiors?

Best thing in the world to keep up on interior plastics is simply the damp chamois you just dried the car with. To get all the crud off the interior if they put gloss on, use spray window cleaner(in the airisol can-not trigger-type) and a big damp towel, gets it all off and dries spot free if you get overspray on anything.

I currently use Meguiar's NXT Generation™ Tech Protect. It enhances the interior's natural finish without the excessive grease and gloss that Armor All leaves. It even smells great, to boot.

I tried a new product for my interior plastics and absolutely love it, Poorboy's Natural Look Dressing. It didn't cost me much more than an off-the shelf product, it leaves a nice matte finish, smells great and is not greasy to the touch at all. I did my whole interior except the seats with it. I reccomend this product
