It could be the fact that I've only had the car for 5 days but my wheels are covered in a thick layer of break dust already. Anyone else experience this and does it get better with some age?

The joys of disc brakes.

In my experience, it never goes away...or you could just stop from using the brakes.

I don't think there is a way to keep the brake dust off really. Just clean them often and they should be fine. A few years ago they came out with these covers that went between the wheels and the brake disc. DO NOT BUY THESE. They actually have been found to decrease cooling to the brakes and increase stopping distances. Brake dust is just something we all have to deal with. I'm sure that there are products out there that can the amount that sticks to the wheels but you will never be completely rid of it.

Get some ceramic brake pads. They will cut down on your dust but you will still have some just not as much.

Yeah I've heard that there are brake pads that eliminate the dust... although I don't know how true that is.

I never get that much brake dust at all. I didn't wash my car for 2 weeks once (i know, im slipping) and I didn't notice any. Keep driving and it should decrease.

Also, how much stop and go traffic are you dealing with. If you are traveling mostly on the Highway then it may be a little less but if its in the city it may be more due to the constant stopping and going.

Like badandy said. It may wear off a little as you drive also.

Well my drive into work (15 miles) is mostly neighborhoods and about 5 stop signs and one stoplight. To my classes I get to play on the highway... So it's about 60/40 in favor of city driving.

Don't worry. My driving is about 70/30 in favor of city and I don't have that problem. I really think it will wear off after a few more miles. Also, when you wash spray into the brakes and this may help. You can get brake dust repellant from your local autoparts store which will help.

I used this turtle wax stuff I saw in the autoparts store- it caught my eye, I had never seen it before. Platinum wheel cleaner I think its called. Did one good wash and the brake dust doesn't seem to stick much anymore. Try a bottle, its only a few bucks

It's the cheap brake pads they put on Ford Vehicles. I know two people with Expeditions...entire wheel is black!!! I see it a little on my stang, but keep it clean

There are several kits on the market that will clean the brake dust off and the second spray on application helps prevent brake dust from sticking to the rims. Works pretty darn good. After cleaning my rims I apply a coat of wax to them to also aid in keeping the dust from sticking to the rims.Easier to clean the rims after too.

Hmm...never thought about waxing the rims. Might have to give that a go.

Arin to answer youre question, Yes there is something. Go to your local wally world and pick up some Castrol Super Clean in the purple container and some rubber (not latex) gloves. Take your wheels and wet them down and then take a sponge and rub on some CSC. It will cut right through the stuff. BE SURE TO WASH IT OFF THE WHEELS AND YOUR SKIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most rims are clear coated and should be waxed anyway. I do it if the rims are clear-coated.
