best car care KIT
 

for all you detailing guys out there whats the best car care kit out there, meaning a kit with car wash, a wax, a buffer etc. I have seen a couple online and just wanted to know your guys opinions on what would be a good "start up" kit just so i can keep my mustang looking pretty. thanks

Have you been to autogeek.net? Id say its worth a visit, especially their discussion board. Id say any good quality DA polisher with some pads and pad care products would be a great way to start. Just ordering the rest of it all might be a lil costly. I would say a decent DA kit combined with Autogeekʻs original forum favorite or forum favorite 2 kits will be everything you need

Dont get a "start up" kit wash supplies. Most of the times its a waste of money and includes things you dont really need. Just buy what you need as you go. I would reccomened starting with.

A good car wash shampoo (I like Griots or Meguiars Gold Class) I also like Optimum no Rinse but that's slightly different.

At least 2 buckets with Grit Guards. (I use three)

Some quality MF wash mitts and towels. Maybe a waffle weave for drying.

Wax/Sealant will vary depending on what you want (looks, durability, ease of use, color of your car, etc, etc.) Currently Im using Blackfire Wet Diamond. Ive also used Meguiar's NXT and Gold Class both with good results.

Also dont overlook the value of a good clay bar. Meguiars, Mothers, Blue Magic all work well.

Optional:
Detail Spray (Megs, Mothers, Griots, ONR mixed, etc.)
Glass Cleaner (I like Stoners)
Tire Shine (Im using Megs Endurance right now)
Brushes for cleaning wheels/tires
Interior Cleaner (I use meguiars QID)

This is a good base place to start and if you find you need more products or want to experiment with different things you can.

In addition a start up kit for a polisher might not be a bad idea. Maybe something like this.

ended up buying the car products separate at autozone which has a great selection to choose from. Went with meguiars fine cut cleaner, meguiars swirl remover, meguiars finishing polish, meguiars ultimate wax (paste), and meguiars gold class carnuba wax. I applied the products by hand in the order listed on the hood on my TBSS to get a feel on how to clean, polish and wax paint. Wow the hood is spotless no swirls whats so ever and it so **** smooth and shiney. I ordered a portercable 7424XP polisher from autogeek with a bunch of pads which should arrive tuesday. God this detailing stuff is quite addicting!

Meguiar has a bunch of car cleaning kits that are good

I vote Griots. the products they design will not interact negatively with any of their other products. I was at a seminar at the mother store and I was very impressed on how well the products worked and how easy they were to use.

Here's what I got
Machine polish & wax kit -includes polisher, clay bar, best of show wax, machine polish 3, speed shine, an orange and red pad, Griot's detail manual. I added paint sealant, carnauba wax stick, extra orange and red pad.
Got everything for $235. Auto Zone stores carry some Griot's products also. I picked up the long lasting tire dressing and a micro fiber wash mit. Gonna get the spray wax too. Haven't used the polisher yet, it's still freezing in Chicago.

For the "tight spots" you may want to invest in the Griot's Garage 3" random orbit polisher. I have a Makita rotary, a Porter Cable 7424 and the Griots 3" RO for polishers. The roray rarely gets used n my detailing venture, and it never, ever touches the Mustang.

Use 3M painters tape to tape off any areas that you don't want to get polish or wax/sealant on.

Detailing isn't only addicting... its cheaper than seeing a pshrink!

Refreshly waxed with a coat of meguiars gold class carnauba paste wax. Applied with the porter cable DA polisher and a red pad. Removed with a microfiber bonnet.

Looks great. I use Meg's stuff too. I really like using the #26 glaze before I wax. I think that's the number. I only use it on dark paint though.

Meguiar's products can work some serious wonders.
