Will the Mustang ever get over no-IRS?
I still see the mumbles about the Mustang not having a proper IRS. I realize that soon enough the Mustang will more than likely have an IRS but has no one proven the solid axle is a solid performer yet? Every recent article tackles this topic and claims that the finger pointing is un-warranted.
So what give Mustang fans? Do you really hate your log axle that much or is it just that you don't want to look uncool in the classroom full of IRS behinds?

The mustang did 'get over' the IRS it outhandles most of them on the track
Honestly I prefer a live axle. lighter, efficient, good for drag racing, apparently good for road racing as well.
The argument about the LRA being a performer on anything but smooth glass road is invalid, who races on bumpy torn up roads?

I'm glad the straight axle is still there.
it *might* handle better and not lose durability with IRS.
It *might* handle even better and not lose durability with IRS and AWD.
it IS a Mustang as is, if they make it a Porsche it wont be a Mustang anymore.
A SHO Taurus is a great car, so is a new Porsche, BMW, blah, blah, blah, but they are not cars a typical working guy can afford- if anything I'm worried the Mustang is already getting out of its market a bit, and wish theyd offer a fun basic gt still in the 25 k range- if the volume is there I think Ford could do it profitably, but if the volume falls/costs will rise/volume falls/repeat till discontinued.

Well, I meant for this to be more of a reason not to go to an IRS set up. Personally I too prefer the solid axle. I think it keeps a certain sense about the Mustang that like ford4v429 stated, keeps the car a Mustang.
I like progress but I think the Mustang keeps true to it's roots.

I would prefer a IRS along with the transmission moved to the rear and a proper torque tube. I think it could be done economically if the engine didn't have as much torque off the line by using the transmission out of a front drive car but in the back. Maybe if the mustang has to give up the V8 for the Ecoboost V6 the SHO transmission would work.

hate to say it but aside from not sounding like a proper V8, that would be awesome.
transaxles and IRS in a mustang? maybe a cougar or Mark series, but IMO the mustangs pretty cool as is

Although Ford does not offer it, it is still very possible to go IRS with the Mustang http://mustangirs.com/index.php
I myself like the Log in the rear, I remember how unforgiving my 93 T-Bird was in the snow with the IRS.
No with that said, I would love to have IRS for a Corner Carving Mustang, since it does well even it its stock form in the corners
