What color is the epitome of Mustang?
#101
lol at this entire thread.
Its just some harmless fun. I'm sure there were threads like this one before, and there will be more after, just grin and bear the lead Legend Lime has over the rest of the pack

WTF. It sounds like Mopar vs. Ford in here. All I wanted was to ask when you were a kid or a young adult and saw your first Mustang what was it? Or if when you didin't have a Mustang and lay in your little bed at night dreaming about one what color was it? I love black, but I think I would say red now because of all the ones I've seen recently. I was watching "Married with Children" the other night, nothing on, and it had a 60's red convertible on the show just like so many I've seen.
I don't know what I was thinking asking people who love their cars so much to tell me what is the epitome of mustang because most will say their color. I guess lesson learned. If I poll someone maybe it should be none mustang owners what they think is the epitome of mustang.

I love the Grabber orange 1969 boss we had for brief time when i first got married.
weather you realize it or not, you just opened a real heart warming conversation about the love of what was in you head. YOUR OWN EPITOME and yes you got lots of answers. Good topic and fun response and debate. Its what keeps us thinking. ALL OF US!

I would definitely say that for me a 1969 Boss is my ultimate Mustang, even over a Shelby at any price. And if you could take the exterior and style of the 1969 Boss and put the modern conveniences of our cars and that would be what the next generation Mustang should be. '69 Boss is just pure all out sex and muscle, IMO. And not to **** anyone off but for me that '69 Boss ain't in Legend Lime, sorry, I said it so there let the insults fly.

Well.....my personal favorite happens to be a 1969 Candy Apple Red Mach 1 with Flat Black trim, but you are correct the grabber colors of the late 60's and early 70's scream Muscle Car!!

White. White--because the original G.T. 350s came in white. White--because the FR500C comes in white. White--because the FR500S comes in white. White--because the very original Mustang I two-seater concepts of 1962 came in white. White--because the second Mustang concepts of 1963 came in white (these were the first 2+2 seating concepts with the removable hardtop). And finally, white--because I like white. Crystal Blue Clearcoat Cetallic is my favorite Ford paintjob, but Mustangs unfortunately have never come in that color although Explorers, F150s, and Rangers have come in that color and there was an early Focus 3-door model that offered a nearly identical color with a slightly different name. Also, the first small run of '68 428 CobraJet Mustangs may have come only in white, but I have no documentation that such was the case.
Possible correction: I have seen a few Mustangs in Crystal Blue Clearcoat Metallic or nearly the same color with a Marketing Department trendy name. IIRC, they were the two-door Tauruses with the C-scoops on the sides--would that be the pre-'99 Mustangs????

The reason why you don't see the early ones is because the second owners had them repainted something else. My 67 GT was originally Lime Gold but a previous owner had it repainted Dark Highland Green (which is a beautiful color too). I remember back in 68 my dad was trying to order a new pickup in you guessed it Lime Gold. It was the most popular color at that time and was very limited in run (if I recall it was an additional charge because of the metallic color and people were clamoring vehicles painted it thus the paint was in short supply). Chevrolet had a very similar color in 69/70 because we had a 70 Chev station wagon in the same color.

When I was a kid, my neighbor 4 doors down was selling his perfect condition 1 owner 1965 black on black V-8 4-Speed coupe for $2500. It had some after market wheels and tires on it but he had all 4 of the original tires and wheels in the garage and they went with it. I couldn’t afford the $2500. I still to this day regret not making a bigger effort to buy that car.
Hum... Black, the only color for a cool car…

They did charge extra for it, but not because it was metallic. Metallic paints weren't that uncommon in the '60s. As I recall it was one of the 'springtime' colors.
Seems the original buyers liked Lime Gold, but not many others did. It was considered an ugly color by many, so the common repainting.

Dont forget the II's. Originally I thought red- pretty much works on most generations of stangs. But I cant picture a 2 being red for some reason. However white works with them, just as every other generation of Mustang, so for me white- in a close one over red. (Besides, red just attracts RADAR!)

The color chosen should be the one that brought the Mustang to the attention of the public . And that I would have to say is White , with the lemans Blue stripes . That is just my opinion , and acording to the wife it dont mean much .
