Went from Stang GT to GTO......

Well, I see them here in Metro Detroit, I'm not going to knock them, would only consider one if there were no Mustangs. Keep in mind this the Big Three's home town, so we see a lot more of all domestics. There is most likely more mustangs here than anywhere in the country.

I've never even seen a new GTO in person... anywhere. Not at an autoshow, dealership or on the street. Are they not selling them in Canada or is it that they're just not selling?

I'll say that your friend didn't really want the Mustang. I know I did. I waited my 6 months, fixing my old Camry as necessary just to get through until my Mustang gets here. I would wait longer - I wanted a 2005 Mustang! Not a GTO, RX8, Z, WRX, Mazda 3(not the same category but cheap and fun) or anything else. I considered them all, but I realized while great cars, they are not what I REALLY wanted (or could afford It was Mustang or Mustang!

I feel sorry for your friend. he could have saved a lot of money and bought a Cavalier and popped a huge engine in it, wait he did just that without the saving the money part pathetic over priced Cavalier look alike.

Its just a shame what they did with the styling of that car! Even people I know that have no allegiance one way or the other (Mustang vs GTO) all say the same thing as me about the GTO, great engine, but crappy styling. Just goes to show, that for most, the single most improtant deciding factor for a car is how it "looks".

Man, I can't wait for the Shelby to come out. It will be in the GTO's price class and it will whip its BUTT!
I'm so sick of my GM friends trying to compare a 35k car to a 25k car.

Then why read the thread if it angers you so much? I don't get into the brand bashing either, but it is an appropriate topic for this forum.

Hay Guys, as a girl I love my 05GT Vert. The GTO looks to much like a boat. You know big and cumbersome. Yea it has the HP but I am sorry I can't think of even being seen in that car. My 05GT Vert looks great. This is the first car that no matter where we go people take note. In traffic people wave and smile, give the thumb up, and tell us she is great. When we stop to park and I mean every time we stop, some one comes up to look and tells us how great it looks. I wonder how much attention the GTO will get?

the gto's are a good performance car, but i agree...they coulda done waaay better in the looks department...the mustang is a true headturner...they have a mustang and gto in my local mall....everyone that passed the stang stopped and looked at it, and it was covered in fingerprints...while the gto was covered in dust...my bro's friend's dad has an 04 gto..he blew the tranny out & put a corvette tranny in there, that shows how well they r built..lol

Next year I will be in the market for a new daily driver (over an hour each way in stop & go - mostly stop - traffic) - so an automatic it is. I am hoping to buy a 2006 Tungsten Mustang GT, and loaded I am guessing it will run me 29K to 30K - and if I order it I will be looking at many months of waiting.
The only other car I am considering is the GTO (looks lke about $32K with incentives), I don't care for the looks too much, but the comfort & reliability seem to be at (or above) what I have read about the 2005 Stang.
I consider myself a die-hard Mustang fan, but if I start to get jerked around next year when I try to buy one, I could certainly see changing brand loyalty (at least for a few years!).

I have a guy here at work that has owned nothing but GTOs his whole life. I think he said that he has had like 10 different GTOs, he still drives a 68 GTO to work everyday. He told me the other day that he absolutely will not buy the new GTO because it looks horrible. He doesn't care that it has 400HP. So he told me that he is going to do the unthinkable and put in a order for an 06 mustang GT. He came to that decision after I let him drive mine....

I think you'll be very surprised at how well the Charger sells (especially the R/T and SRT8). I see the main differences as:
1. Pontiac re-badged a Holden, changed the front fascia, and is trying to call it a GTO (same market - 2-door muscle car)
2. Dodge is using the Charger name, but in a completely different market from the original (4-door family sedan vs 2-door muscle car, with 340, 350, and 425 horsepower versions)
Sales are anticipated to be fairly high, and I'll give them credit for one thing - they've got people talking about a family sedan. When's the last time someone talked about an Intrepid?

I'm not going to get into logistics of this debate, but (and others have made this point so nothing new) the original GTO was just a Pontiac Tempest, so the new GTO being a Holden isn't too far stretched.
