I feel sorry for your friend. he could have saved a lot of money and bought a Cavalier and popped a huge engine in it, wait he did just that without the saving the money part pathetic over priced Cavalier look alike.

My friend bought a 2004 GTO also. It was before the mustangs were even out. Its a nice ride but waaaaaaaaaaay to much $$$, it has terrible gas mileage and IMO not the good looking of a car. I think he realizes now he overpayed when I got my V6 and compared prices it was $8000 difference. Yikes.......................

I think the key here is that he wanted a Mustang, but had to settle for a GTO. Unfortunately for Ford, not everyone will wait 6 months for a car.
The GTO doesn't do anything for me looks-wise, but it's hard to argue with 400HP. I'm sure he got it for under MSRP too.
Congrats to your friend on the new purchase... it's too bad there wasn't a GT available for him.

Man, I can't wait for the Shelby to come out. It will be in the GTO's price class and it will whip its BUTT!
I'm so sick of my GM friends trying to compare a 35k car to a 25k car.

should have went for an 04 GTO, still on dealer lots, around me you can get one for about 23k. My friend has an 04 and owes more on his loan still than if he went and got a brand new 04 tomorrow

I just dont get it...Yea Ford needs to get it together and get these cars out to their fans or atleast be able to provide a definite date of delivery. However, when it comes to the GTO, just my opinion but that car is UGLY!. I would not by that car if it had 600HP and was $5,000.00 cheaper than the Mustang GT unless if I raced on the tracks for a living. I mean come on, the Mustang is a beautiful car and is 300HP not enough power to for a daily driver back in forth to work, school, etc.? I guess just that some men dont feel men enough without the power. I was talking to my wifes cousin this past weekend as he loved my car but said he would get the GTO over my Mustang any day because of its HP. He was not crazy about the looks of the GTO though. So how can you love a car that you think is not a beautiful car.
Now for those that believe the GTO is a better looking car than the Mustang I will not argue with. Its all in taste but again, dont tell me that you like the GTO because its got more HP but admit its not as sharp as the Mustang in the looks.

The '05 GTO is a pretty awesome car, except in the looks department. I think it would be a really fun car if you couldn't get a Mustang. Rare too - I've yet to see one on the road.

I agree, I'd rather have the Mustang (obviously).
I don't think the point of this thread is to rehash the Mustang vs. GTO discussion. It's to point out that Ford lost another sale by screwing up the GT/V6 mix.

04 GTOs are kinda stealth cars. Whenever I see one I have to make sure it's not a Grand AM. You can get them pretty cheap now too. Not my cup of tea, but its still a big American V8, so it can't be all bad.

Hey guys lets stop the GTO bashing. Someone has to buy them POSs.

I'm so proud of you guys for not totally bashing the goat. The posters on many of the GTO forums are not (generally) as nice when talking about the Mustang. That being said, I think the GTO is a great car but I really don't like the looks of the car. Of course, that's just my opinion and we all know what an opinion is worth
