Taking a trip South Looking for cool things to do.
Hi Everyone, I will be leaving Long Island Ny and driving down to Florida. I have never done this before, and I am looking for cool places to stop along the way. I am not worried about making down to Florida in a certain amount of time. As I got laid of from work and have a lot of free time right now. I plan on going to visit my biological father who I never met. I also plan on stoping down in Geroiga to visit my Step sister Who I never met.
So what cool place along the way are there.

western NC/Eastern TN/North GA has some of the best roads in the country. You can easily find dozens of the twistiest and beautiful roads you can imagine.

Jay, if you like old style tacky roadside businesses, stop at Pedro's in South Carolina just off I-95. It's like a step back in time. St. Augustine is also a nice stop for a little shopping (for the Wifey), and good food for you. If you like the old road, take some time to travel down Highway 1. It's closer to the coastline, and takes you through the old parts of the towns along the way. Be safe, and enjoy your trip.

Jim that sounds like fun. I do like the old stuff. I think I am going to make this trip in a few weeks. I wish I had a wifey. I thought I had found the right person recently. But she wasn't, So I am currently single right now. Who knows maybe I will meet someone while hanging out. Find me a nice Southern bell or Georiga Peach lol.

You can't go wrong with a sweet Southern Belle. Most are fine as wine, and sweet as honey.

Charleston SC is full of history, first shot of the Civil War was fired there. Many beautiful old homes downtown in the historic district and "The Battery". Lots of good places to eat as well.
When do you plan on driving down? Now is a good time as it isn't too hot and humid. If you're crazy enough to head down during the summer, Mustang Week will be going on in Myrtle Beach SC in July. It's like Woodstock for Mustangers.

I been researching some stuff and I found something I really want to do and that is this
Cross the swinging bridge at Grandfather Mountain
Suspended a mile above sea level, the swinging bridge at Grandfather Mountain provides the most unique view of the Catawba River Valley and surrounding peaks which are home to 42 rare animal species. The legendary winds cause the bridge to truly swing, but the views make the trip worth it. With average temperatures of only 45 degrees, don’t forget to pack a jacket to stay warm
http://www.grandfather.com/ This looks really cool. I can't wait to hang out in North Carolina for a few days on my way down to Florida.

Jay, if your coming out of LI, and headed south on the eastern side of North Carolina, Grandfather Mountain is gonna be a long ride. Approx. six to seven hours. Just FYI, if time doesn't matter you'll enjoy the Smokey mountains. Beautiful at every turn.

If you're in Western NC check out Deals Gap, better known as The Tail of the Dragon. 318 curves in 11 miles. Check out the tree of shame while you're there. And as someone who grew up in Long Island just as warning. Be prepared for complete strangers to wave and say hi. And if you get iced tea, don't put sugar in it till you taste it!
