Can I plug my SCT X3 into any car just to read the fault codes? Or seeing how it is tied to my car it will only work on my car?

I know my old one reads Fords and Lincolns.
The other makes could be hit or miss.
I couldn't read Subaru

It *SHOULD* work, just don't attempt to write a tune to any other car except the one that the tuner is meant to be used with, you will brick the ecu and need to tow it to a dealer to reflash/replace the cars computer

 

I've never tried as with the RCMP code if that differs & you try to upload a tune your screwed ! So I bought a Blue Drive when they first came out so was half cost then now but still worth it , small unit plugs into same port , reads & clears codes , even give you full diagnostic on engine & power train from mass air flow rate to fuel rail pressure you name it . I read it all on my iPad or iPhone every trip I take it data logs every thing. So at the time I paid $50.00 for dice & $50.00 for the full use app.
My son works in a shop & loves mine more ask don't have to keep paying to use it what's more I can plug into any OBD2 port & read or clear.
