Saleen S281 ( Supercharger question

Good Evening,

Can someone please help shed some light on the cost to replace the Supercharger ( that comes stock ) on a 99 -2004 Saleen S281 ?

I am in the Market to purchase one and want to plan for the "Worse case scenario" if the Supercharger was to quit

Also ( total Newbie question ) - If the Super charger does go out, can you still drive the Car ( and just unbolt and remove the Supercharger?

Thanks so much for all of the help and insight

I'm pretty sure Saleen does not make that supercharger any more, so you might be out of luck . . . if I were you I would go direct to the source: Google Saleen and call them. I think they are still in business, in some form, but not sure.

To remove the supercharger you would also need to replace the intake manifold that is part of the supercharger, so no you can't just remove the supercharger. But you can probably drive the car with the supercharger idling, meaning with the belt disconnected so it is not turning.

"Department of Boost" might have some kind of replacement option, you can find them on the web.

IMHO! You would be much better off replacing the Saleen blower that came stock on your 99-04 Saleen S281 altogether. The reason! they were discontinued well over 10 years ago and haven't been available since. You may also consider looking into places such as 281motorsports.com or PSEsuperchargers.com that can rebuild your stock Saleen S281 supercharger? However, just keep in mind that it may cost just as much to rebuild your current S/C if not more than what it would cost to just purchase a whole new unit which is more up to date and in current production. Anyhow, for what it's worth, just my opinion.

$5200 for a total kit.

That said, I bet you could just call them and ask... might be a better option...

Welcome to the forums!

hmmmm . . . that current listing says "Saleen by Kenne Bell" so I think it is a KB supercharger, being sold by Saleen, likely not the old Saleen S/C? But yeah a phone call should get it sorted out.

Or it could be the old Saleen S/C rebuilt by KB
