He wasn't even on it hard... it was the wierdest thing. I told him the car would barely break the tires loose, and he said, "Oh, yeah?".
He was already rolling in 1st, got on it, then shifted to 2nd and lifted right away so he wouldn't run into the guy taking the picture. I didn't even hear the tires at all! The same thing happened at the parade... as the tires warmed up and got softer, I couldn't hear them during the line locks any more!
When I looked back I almost couldn't believe it. I'm glad that 2nd picture shows the patches directly behind the car or I still may not believe it.
And that was with the crappy, "de-tuned" tune.

With the stock tires, maybe!

C'mon.. maybe with the stock tires?
Tom, you're giving way too much credit to your tires, and not enough to the performance abilities of the N/A 4.6. You make it sound like you're running 12" wide drag radials or something.
I'd be fun to see if I can roast them right off the rim.
+1
I think Tom is the last of the Mohicans still using the stock stick with a FI engine.

You'll be surprised at the difference.
I'm comparing my driving style to my driving style... not to your driving style. Pop the clutch in first and of course you can roast them.
But there is a HUGE difference between the stock tire grip and the BFG tire grip. I used to come down this road to work that had a sharp right turn at the end. With the stock tires I could slide the rear end around without even trying. With the BFG's and the 93 race tune, it wasn't nearly as easy.
Could I have come into the turn harder and turned sharper? Sure... I'm just saying that when driving in the same manner, the better tires make a HUGE difference.
On second thought... You probably won't notice ANY difference with your driving style...
