Yes fun to drive but very expensive to maintain. However I never spent this kind of money on my VW. Then again I could never do burnouts or donuts with it either

WOW GTI, we had a 2003 Dark Blue 1.8T, I wanted the R32 as well but could not get my hands on one.

I upgraded to the GT and haven't looked back, best decision I've made in a long time.

I'm in the process of buying some Bi-Xenon H13 4300K HID's can't wait as it will be a big help driving at night.

250RWHP??
I thought you had more like 0 (as in ZERO) RWHP in the GTI?

For you VW lovers, this is cool vid that was my inspiratation when I started making Mustang videos. I contacted their video editor and was told it (and all their other videos) was created on a Mac.

You are so right Billster, make that 250 FWHP

There are so many tricks you can do with the 1.8 turbo in addition to chipping it and I had a 5sp in it so it was a hoot. It was the Mrs. car actually, she loved it but would get so pi$$ed when I would mod it up. But she liked the power, she always said she liked the power to pass and stay out of harms way here in this wonderful Houston traffic.

I'll dig up a few pics, it was fun. One time when we were going to Corpus Christie the Mrs. said lets see how fast it will go, I'm thinking did she just ask that.............yes she did so not waiting for her to change her mind we found a 2 lane back road that was straight as an arrow for about 8 miles. No traffic in sight we wound it up, we got it up to just under 140, it got to 125 fairly fast but going to just under 140 took along time lol

I went through tires fast with it, kind of like whats happening to the GT ha

I know... just messin' with ya Phil!

I was never into VW's, never owned one nor desired one. I'm sure once hopped up, those things are wicked fast! Same goes for the ricers. But, they could keep all that, I'm loyal to the American Muscle cars all the way! And probably cheaper to mod!!

The VW was fun, but there is nothing like good ole American V8 muscle, right guys. And the sound of V8 muscle is as good as it gets, although I heard a new Ferrari take off from the stop light the other day and it sounded quite nice, except you know its around 200K nice (yikes)

They (VW) are actually easy to mod and not very expensive to mod

I like my GT, always wanted one and now will always have it.

Hey Bill as a side note, always wanted to ask you this question........

How did you ever get the TacoBill nickname? There has to be a story behind it I would guess? Tell us................ Tell us the story Mr. Bill

My buddy works at the VW dealer. My dad and I know the owners.
The R32 was very interesting and they had plenty of them, but I knew the new Stang was coming and had everything that I wanted in a car.
I made my choice.
Besides,it cost me less money.

Thanks Tom. I'm hoping it still settles a little more. I like it, but the lower the better.

Thanks! I wish I could watch your video, my internet is just awful here. Almost impossible to watch videos without them being choppy.

One of the drawbacks of those fun little cars.

The R32 is an awesome car, but I don't think it's quite worth the money. Love the GTI, but don't think a car like that is worth the price tag.

Well, I like the color......

Hey Tom congrats on the turbo...... my advise is to do yourself a favor and begin researching local Diablo tuners just incase you need a few minor tweaks on the GMS tune.

Thanks!

I'm going to email Justin at VMP tuning... where all us TMSers get our cars dyno'd. I'll see if he can do anything for me if need be.

Talk to ya'll Sunday night or Monday... I'm off to bed and then up early to Key West for 4 days.

This question comes up every once in a while.

I was pretty heavily into the Tacoma truck forum back when I first got my truck in 2000 and that was my username. Well, used it for so long that it stuck.

There you have it.
