Yes, you do... at least up until last Saturday. Your rims were the ones I was referencing first:

Just looks to be broken off at the head. Threads should be fine and if not I will tap it out.
I don't have them anymore, used some WD40 to remove them

Stupid question here as I have never had to take care of a high flow filter such as the conical filter for the C & L.
How do you clean one of these? This one is quite filthy.
Then will a K & N Oil Kit work to re-oil it ?

Upon further investigation I have come up with a scenario that I think happened concerning the broken screw.
I removed the good screw and was able to remove the MAF sensor from the intake adapter.
Attachment 12732
What it looks like to me, is when the MAF was initially installed it was cross threaded a little. (Notice the marks on the bad screw side of the MAF Sensor)
Attachment 12733
Then when it was time to remove it it wouldn't budge and the head snapped off.
BTW Bill that is Maroon not Fuscia and it is not carpet it is a rug.

I'd recommend spraying some penetrating oil in that broken stud and let it soak for a while. Then get yourself a Screw Extractor to remove the broken stud. Once out, check the condition of the threads and re-tap if necessary.

My bad.

I used some penetrating oil & let it set overnight, sucker still won't budge. (Used pliers to grip the tip sticking out.) So I need to try the left handed drill bit, then extractor method. Then have to re-tap I am assuming.

No problem

A K&N Recharger kit will come with the cleaner and the oil. But, it will be red when you are done. The oil is what makes it red or blue.
This will clean it and make it blue:

How often do you need to clean/re-oil ??
Sorry I am an idiot on this stuff, but learning

K&N instructions
Another source
Tip passed down from K&N Tech Rep: (from another Forum)
They said to oil them about every 10,000 miles, and that when you do oil them, not to oil them heavy.... (can create problems with excess oil getting on the MAF sensor)
They said that if you actually just spray them once every 6-8 inches that the oil will actually spread......
I am guilty myself as I used to soak my K&N with oil every time I cleaned it.....
We actually took a flat air filter about the size of a stock Mustang filter and gave it one spray down the middle
By then end of the tour- about an hour and a half later it had spread to the edges.......
That they said is the proper way as too much oil will cause it not to flow as well....
Of course they said, if you want to use a ton of oil thats fine too ....as it just means you need to buy more...

Hmm... I thought the C&L's came blue from the factory. Guess not, it's red like the K&N! link
I believe we were thinking of the Steeda CAI.
I believe we were thinking of the Steeda CAI.
But, I think I would make it blue.
How about green, yellow, purple, or turquoise... or gray (clear)?

Can get the cleaning kit straight from Steeda for $12.95. link
Not too sure about green, yellow, purple, turquoise, or raw... I think they made those color options for Imports!

True about the colors, but I used the clear oil on my K&N filter on the '89. I didn't like the red. And, since the "theme" is black and gray, the K&N filter with clear oil looked great.

I've read that the spray oil is much easier to deal with than the squeeze bottle kind. When it's time for me, I'll probably go get the spray even though I already have the re-oil kit.
For us 'show' guys that have the filter out in the open (as in CAI), it takes a beating for hours from the sun hitting it when the hoods open. I don't think the filter oil will last as long as ones under a closed hood.

But now, it really doesn't matter, right? As your K&N filter is a drop-in and no one will ever see it.
That's true! On both cars!

I hate the squeeze bottle kind, too. The summit links are all the spray kind.

I'll try and permanently mount the radar today. And if I have time, do the oil change. Just have to remember to take some dimensions on that milled spot on the detector mount to see if that pony emblem will fit.
I'll take pics for write-ups.
Guess we'll hear from Leo later this afternoon about his decklid issue.

Hey, I have a quick question about the oil filters. It sounds like the mobil 1 filter is OK. What about the Motorcraft FL820 "high performance" filter. I also saw something about not getting FRAM, why ?
I just hit 2000 miles on mine and I want to change the oil, so seeing the talk about it here prompted me to ask.
Thanks !

If you are using Mobil1, Royal Purple or Redline Synthetic then I would recommend the Mobil1 M1-210.
The Motorcraft would be good as well and a little cheaper.
FRAM has gone to **** over the past few years. There have been several tests on oil filters and every one of them says the same about FRAM, poor quality.
You might do a search, there is a thread on this and a link to one of the Filter Tests and it's results.
For me and my peace of mind, Mobil1 Oil & Mobil1 Filter.
(OK This change I am using a K&N that I got for free but it is an excellent filter too)
