I have a 78 mustang 2 I need to replace the steering intermediate shaft nobody carries this part can I swap everything out for the column shaft rack an pinion of another year

I believe the pinto of that year used the same steering column. Good luck.

Well, it was another older guy like me so... perhaps.
But I think he is a little younger than I am. I think he might be only 50.

Clutch feels like brand new.
He did take good care of it.
Always garaged and never driven in the snow and salt.
