Pics of 255 vs 235 tires?
Hey guys, thinking about changing my stock 235/50/18's on my Bullitt to 255/45/18's and was looking to see if anyone had comparison pics of the two tire sizes by chance? I'm trying to get an idea of just how much bigger the tires will look on the car, specifically the rear tires.
Also, how much of a performance gain would I be looking at if I switch to 255's? I can't imagine it will make that big of a difference, but it's got to feel a little grippier and hook a little bit better right?

no pictures, but 255 is about 3/4" wider than 235s. They'll help, but rubber compound will make a bigger difference. A 255 width will put you right at 10" wide, but each tire will have different widths--some will be as much as half an inch wider at the edge of the tire depending on how sharp the shoulder drops to the sidewall.

Probably not, though the difference is not going to be all that noticeable unless you're **** about the tire sitting flush with the fender. We're talking 16ths of an inch in difference at that width.

So I just found a picture of a 235, 255, and a 285 all lined up. The 255 looks so much bigger than the 235. I know the size difference is only 3/4", but it looks like much more in this picture? Or maybe it's just the angle?

It's a bit deceptive because of the angle, but the tires are two different types as well. The two in front are a more aggressive tread and it stretches all the way out to the shoulder. The top tire doesn't. A better comparison would be to line them up side by side. Again, the actual widths are going to vary by the kind of tire and the manufacturer.

I have bought a few sets of tires for a few of my vehicles lately and have found that when I find a certain tire that I may be considering, I can click on "specifications", and most list the treadwidth, diameter, circumference, sidewall height, rotations per mile, etc...
I have staggered wheel widths on my pickup and wanted the tires to have exactly the same sidewall height on 2 different width rims...
I was able to determine that a BFG 235/45/ZR17 has the same sidewall height as a BFG 275/40/ZR17 and that different brand tires of the same size, may have different dimensions....
Summit Racing is very good for these charts...
Here is another cool tool!
It's a tire size comparison calculator;

My Nitto 255 seemed a little too big
I just replaced my Nitto 255 Redlines after 25K. One thing that I didn't like was the sensation of bouncing over bumps. It was almost like I was riding on basketballs.
I went down a size to 245's. I don't get that bouncing feel with this smaller size. Hope this helps
