Paul Brown passes away!

World Challenge Champion in 2011 and one of those all around good guys, reportedly passed away last evening. Those of us that knew Paul remember him as a regular guy who raced over the years ( usually with a miniscule budget ) in SCCA and Vintage Racing. Last year he had a stellar year where he ran strong all year and got the few breaks anyone who has raced for years deserves on occassion. Though he had placed in the top 10 in World Challenge years ago, he was on a beenie weanie budget and got where he was on talent alone, as there just never were funds available. Over the last few years he worked hard and made a great comeback in World Challenge, solidly winning with his Mustang. Those who saw him after the Championship could not get the Cheshire grin off his face and he was the same guy that had struggled over the years to gain the upper tier.

Prayers and solemn wishes go out to Carol, his wife, Kenny Brown, his dad, his kids and family. It was a pleasure to know Paul, and he was always interested in chatting with his friends about their racing triumphs ( regardless if it was autocrossing , roadracing , etc. ) Those who ran into him at Barrett-Jackson where he was showcasing Tiger Racing and his championship found a young boy still glowing with excitement and pride for what he had accomplished. True champion and good friend, heaven will have another winner up there tonight.

God Bless you Paul and thanks for being part of alot of our lives !

I visited Paul at his shop this spring. I met Paul through Cary Eisenlohr, an engineer on his Tiger Racing Team. He was kind enough to agree to meet with my friend Axel and me.

I was planning a Mustang GT build for this year's SEMA Show and I sought his advise on the build and sponsors. Paul had been diagnosed and was checking into the hospital the next day for chemo. You could tell he wasn't feeling well, yet he spent over an hour with us and gave us the full tour of his shop.

It is one thing to win a championship with big money behind you. It is entirely something else to win one on the shoe-string budget Paul and his team had to deal with. They won the championship for Ford with hard work, determination, inventiveness, and talent. That is a credit to Paul and his entire team.

He will be missed.
