Probably just to reduce to simplest terms
3xV8 is actually 3xV2x4 and the four can be removed and placed in front as a 2 and so 3x2xV2 or 6xV2 or 6V2
In other words find the factors of the number in the square root and see if any of those a perfect squares and them take their square roots out and put them in front as multipliers if that makes since

So, the other part of that problem 3\/50. If I understand you correctly, the \/50 goes to \/2x25 then I take the 25 down to 5 and it becomes 3x5\/2 or 15\/2 ??

She was required to get this $100 graphing calculator for class but I don't even think they are teaching them how to use it.
So now the whole math problem she has is 3\/50 x 3\/8
Now that has been brought down to 6\/2 x 15\/2.
The answer to this was in the book (select problems have answers) so I know it's 180. Not sure how that happens except I see that 15x6=90 and somehow the 2's play a part in multiplying by 2 bringing it to the 180.

I went over some of it with her, but she's a frustrated 16 year old with an attitude right now. Hopefully tomorrow she'll be a little easier to deal with. Thanks for the lessons, at least I learned something tonight. There are more complicated ones that I didn't even attempt to go over.
