I'm thinking of getting the amp later this week. I get paid tomorrow. For the meantime I'm gonna bring it inside and check it out like Nathan said

This is my sub:

http://www.shopping.com/xPO-Pioneer-TS-W28C

Would it be bad to run 150-175 watts RMS through it? Says it's rated for 120, with a 400w max

And why is there like cotton fluff all up inside this box? It makes no sense to me, but it is very well shaped to the inside of the box, like it was planned

It should be ok if you don't push it too hard. The padding is supposed to help with the bass. I think Gary uses it do maybe he can chime in.

I like the padding because it makes for easier pushing...

Oh wait you mean the sub box.

It serves many functions not the least of which is to stop all those God awful bouncing echoes inside the box. Plus it can help fool the sub into thinking it's in a slightly larger box. I do use it, even if it's only a few inches thick, it does not take away from airspace.

Maybe I'll stick closer to 120rms so I can push it harder when needed.. That being said, I don't think I'll always have it blaring.

And I listen to mostly rock and country, only a little rap

If you are listening to rock and country (i.e. non-boomy stuff that has long drawn out bass notes) then your going to be looking for sound quality (SQ) instead of just loud bass or SPL (Sound pressure level). You want that quick clean bass hit that will define a kick drum beat or a walking bass line. In most instances when setting it up for SQ, typically i would only be running an amp at 1/2-3/4 of its possible gain. Pushing it wide open typically results in some distorted noise. So a slightly bigger amp wouldnt be a bad thing, because you will most likely get a cleaner sound with it running at a lower level. That is just the results I typically got when doing alot of car audio.

Also Gary is right, the cotton filler makes a box seem larger than it is. Reason being is the cotton slows the air movement down inside the box on each percusion of the sub. Some say it gives louder bass.. i personally never noticed as I always went for SQ in setups I did.
