Leather seating
 

If you had cloth seats and wanted leather, would you go the katzkin route (covers) or buy new seats? I ask because I have never seen leather seat covers on a car that looked as good as factory leather on a new one. There is always (from photos I have seen) one or two areas where there is a little "slack" in the cover, whereas factory leather looks like skin. I will be paying a pro to do this, someone who does it for a living day in and day out.

Thanks for your recommendations and good (or horror) stories. I have cloth seats on a 2010 and am ready to upgrade.

I have had my issues with leather seats since the days it was very hot and sunny and I was a kiddo running around but naked. If you know what I mean :D

I plan on replacing my cloth seats on my 2012 with leather next year. Thought I'd buy Katzkin's and let a pro do the install. I'm told the quality is better than factory.

The quality of the materials, I'm sure you're right. But the installation? I don't know.... Every image of Katzkins installations I see online shows significant wrinkling. For example:

I try to avoid seat covers honestly, the only reason my truck has them is it came with them when I bought it, and they kinda work on combating the dog hair problem, so yea, they stay but will be updating those to better type, as for the seats, I would prefferably swap to leather seats (keeping what hardware I could) or so the option that was posted above, just remove the cloth then reapolster with the leather stuff, in a pattern I wanted like the red and black I want to go with...

I used the Katzkins in a F150, and they were very nice. Had them installed by a pro. As stated you will have some wrinkles after the install, but they will disappear after the leather has cured. Took mine approx. 6 weeks, and they were smooth as a babies butt. :)

I don't think you would be disappointed if you decide to good this route.

From experience I will say that is correct.

On my 2000 I had classic soft trim do my install and loved it.

As an oddity, I'll be pulling my leathers out of the '06 and putting in cloth '12s. Or is it 10s. Anyway, updated from '06 trim, with their foams and all.

One day, that is. Lotta crud goin' on... But it's hot in Houston. I've about had it with the leather seats. :)

But being as I'll be doing those, you can bet that I'll be eliminating the wrinkles, period. The old '06 foam will come in quite handy for that.. I'll yank them and adjust/pull/add foam with glue until they're perfect.

Only way to do it is to do it yourself, if you're OCD like me. :D :nice:

I'm another one that would gladly trade my leather seats for cloth. Unfortunately, and I have no understanding why, you just can't get cloth seats in premium convertible models. Leather just burns when out in the sun and it 's cold in the winter until the heated seats get warm. I'd take cloth every day of the week.

Chalk another one up to the leather owners wanting to go cloth here! Might trade straight up with a buddy since we both have Recaros but his are cloth from his base car.

I wouldn't let the premium vs not impede me. As long as the covers'll fit and the color's right (in this case, black/charcoal is the theme) then I would take ol' late 70's velour. :D

Actually... I *would* take late '70s velour, to be honest... that'd be trippy and fun to have in the car.

Maybe I'll get some made... or learn to sew my own dang self... Or I found this awesome seamstress who fixed up my way too long motorcycle pants for an incredible price for the work, maybe I'll see if she'll do it...

I have factory take off leather in mine. In my opinion, it's cheaply made. I have no experience with Katskins but kind of wish I done a little more research and possibly gotten them. The factory leather seats are not even 100% coverage. The side of the seat next to the center console is cloth.
As far as putting leather in a cloth seat car, it made a huge difference in the way the interior feels. Probably the best mod I have done to my base GT.

I have cloth seats. They are very comfortable though I like the classic look of leather seats. Thinking of getting leathers from leatherseats.com or katzkin.

I've already had to have an upholstery shop repair and re-panel parts of my factory leather/vinyl where they were coming apart. But she's a convertible, so it has been a tougher life for these seats.

I say leather/vinyl because you'll want to remember, the factory covers are only leather on the parts you come in contact with. The rest is vinyl. Over time, the vinyl fades lighter and the leather darkens. In sunlight, you can really see the change.

I have had cars with leather before, hard to keep in good condition and it gets slippery after awhile.

I have the deep well bolstered cloth seats in my new Stang and they are great, you don't go anywhere in these things, and the stitching is real nice as well.

I'm installing 2012 leather to replace worn out interior in my 2008 GT/CS - I NEED HELP regarding the wiring harness. Although they seem to be "Plug N Play" - I can see that some of the electrical pins are in "different places" - I do NOT want to fry any electronics 2012 --> 2008 . I can not seem to find a thread that addresses. THANKS FOR HELP and any Guidance !! Dave

Go back to that other thread, I put an answer. And maybe you should put a new thread, this is relatively unrelated, my dude.

Basically, you're gonna need wiring harness diagrams/pin outs from the factory.

Any ideas on where to find one OEM 2013 Leather Drivers Side Back Stone Skin/Seat Cover ? All the Ford websites say out of stock / production after contacting.
Would rather replace than have repaired. Purchased new in 2012 and would really like to keep fixed up.
