How Fast have you gone
I finally broke 1100 miles on my car and this morning I put it up to around 138. It felt good. I just went up to it for a few seconds and back down. I just had to let her take a deep breathe.
How fast have you gone so far and what car do you have?

TMS does not advocate high speed runs on public roads.
If you would like to post about high speed runs at sanctioned tracks or events (or even videos from said events), please feel free to do so. Otherwise this thread will be closed . . .

I don't mean to spoil your thread but I rarely have approached 100 mph in my personal machines, and only on the loneliest of roads where I couldn't impact anyone other than myself. The fastest I have ever gone was 125 mph in my squad car (mid 90's LT1 Chevy engine). It had plenty left but I felt the risk became too great after that. I used to watch my car get calibrated for speed, and the revolutions (and sound) of those tires made me realize the incredible danger involved. Those Goodyears were incredible tires to withstand the beatings. Never had a failure. We once clocked a motorcycle doing 130+ down the interstate. I waved to him and radio'ed ahead if anyone else wanted to risk it. No way!!

I'll be taking my Shelby to the Texas Mile next year; hope to reach 170mph and then do a 200mph run. Also thinking about the Terlingua run in west Texas. There are plenty of events like that all over the country; there's no need to risk the health and safety of others--not to mention yourself--by breaking the speed limit by more than 5-10 mph. If you're late, that's one thing. No one should ever be 120mph-in-a-75mph-zone late.

People may not like what I am going to say, but, high speed on public roads is simply stupid and selfish, I have helped pick up body parts and injured drivers that thought it was fun until they wrecked. I am a Firefighter and see the other side of speed which is not very pretty.
And to those that think they can only harm themselves, think again, what about your family and friends that will have to care for you as an invalid or worse bury you?
You are being selfish and suicidal if you believe high speed on any public road is safe, that includes "closed" roads, which we all know there is no such thing as a closed PUBLIC road.
OK I'm done.
