Help with my Roush set up

Hello everyone,
I just had my local muffler shop install a Roush axle back muffler on my 2014 gt and at the same time I also had him cut out the resignators. When the install was completed and he started her up... HOLLY COW!! Loud and raspy, kinda cool but not for this 43 year old guy, lol. I need to mello it out just a tad. Any suggestions besides throwing the resignators back on or is that the only solution?? Thanks

My roush's are a little bit loud, and I have my resonators. If you don't want to put the resonators back on you'll probably have to get different axle backs like the gt500's. Those sound good without the resonators on.

The Roush exhaust is a LOUD exhaust.

Lol. I'm 46 and I thought I was too old to be cruising around in a loud mustang. Did you not listen to them before having the resonators taken out? They are very loud with them. I love mine. Love days like this when it is warm and I can roll the window down and listen to them.

Lmao. Welcome too the forum bro. I see this is your first post and sorry about you getting Roush axle backs. They are horribly loud, sound god aweful and they have little too no baffles inside. My advice, sell them, take your loss and get some new axle backs. Its a learning curve. :)

Thanks for the input every one. I actually want a loud exhaust note but what I don't want is the raspyness and all the cracking and popping. Kona blue, out of curiosity what system would you recommend? I originally wanted Borla but..... I'm to cheap I guess lol

I thoroughly enjoy my GT500's with the resonators still in. Glad i didn't cut them out. The sound is aggressive smooth and rumbling, but no rasp or popping.

listen here...

That's real nice. Perfect muscle car tone. No high whine or pops and crackles. Well done.

Did you not research the roush exhaust? Almost all videos and customer reviews say they are loud and raspy. If you did not want LOUD then why take out the resonators?

Rhonda14 Feb 18, 2014 12:37 AM

Yip I've been doing research since June when I bought her. Not a whole lot about the raspyness plus the muffler shop said I can always throw the resignators back on which I'll do. I think it will be all good after that and then I could finally move on to the CAI.

Someone else mentioned that GT500 mufflers are currently on Ebay for $355/pair. May check into that, otherwise save your money for some Borlas!! They are pricey, but I can promise you they are worth every penny.

Oh Wow, Roush axle-backs and res delete. That sh!t has got to be loud as ever lol. Can you post up a sound clip?

Johnny Bravo Feb 18, 2014 09:13 PM

Put the resonators back on and drive with it for a while, it should mellow down after a while(just a little)... I actually want it to get louder at this point haha.

I absolutely LOVE my Roush setup but if I was going to have something else it's Borla all the way!!!

I think mine have mellowed down. They don't sound quieter but deeper. Mine are still loud enough.

+1 I love my Borla S with Lethal O/R H pipe

Yes the Roush exhaust is loud, but I really like the way mine sounds. I get lots of "that sounds awesome" comments. I am 55, and it is not too loud for me. Mine was part of my Stage 2 order, but installed by the dealer. I have the dual chamber rectangular tips, and it has a really nice growl, does not drone.

Mine crackles and pops while in pushing in 3rd or fourth gear and I LOVE IT!
:nice:
