Help me..please!
Help me..please!
I'm soooooo depressed. I think I really made a bad decision.
I HAD a 2005 Mustang GT. Beautiful car, sounded awesome. But I sold it. Now I'm questioning whether I did the right thing.
Here's the background story....
I'm an American but live in Sweden. I had Mustangs throughout my life in the U.S. and this Mustang (number #5) was my first in Sweden.
Great Car, in the summer. In the winter - not so good. Even with studded tires and a couple of sandbags in the trunk, I never felt it was the best idea driving it, unless the roads were totally dry and above freezing.
So it sat in the garage, taking it out about once a week just to exercise it.
My family hated it. they thought it was just a waste of money and took up space. They had no desire to drive it and didn't understand my love for the car.
It is a 2005 Gt. Lower mileage (approx 50k miles). This past year, during normal servicing, time was beginning to take it's toll on it. Little things, Brakes, Battery, ball joints...etc. Normal wear and tear. But remember, I live in Sweden. Ford dealerships cannot work (or have the knowledge) on these cars - only from 2015 on up. So I had to go to a specialty garage for service (I live in an apartment, so no where to work on the car). All of their parts have to be imported - which makes everything that more expensive. I've been fortunate, no major problems for the time that I've owned the car.
Other issues that I had with the car is fueling. I am a victim of the vapor lock and the fuel pumps. I have one gas station that I can use that doesn't trip the fuel nozzle every few seconds. It became a nuisance, with all of the new, fast filling, fuel pumps taking over - my choices of where to fuel up were decreasing. And now Sweden is making the fuel more environmentally friendly - I don't know what they do (more additives?), but it wasn't very good for older engines.
So, with all of this on my mind - I sold it. Yesterday. Traded it in for a Focus ST (250hp),,,,and I'm depressed. Not sure if I made the right decision. The family liked my decision (which makes me question myself even more!!) They said "what took you so long to realize that my mustang wasn't built for swedish weather...
What do you guys think? Did I mess up? In my moments of doubt, which is happening very often, all I say to myself is "fuel". It was definitely a pain trying to fuel my car up. Then I say, "if I kept it another year - maybe some more expensive mechanical problems might occur. It's 16 years old...
Just writing about this is kinda like therapy....I miss the car though. The sound of the engine...that focus st doesn't even compare. It's quick and nimble, but it sounds like a lawn mower.
I suck!

If having problems with Mustang you made a good choice , maybe later trade for for newer model Mustang. I like the Ford Focus just too small for me. I had sellers remorse several years ago with 74 Nova till I remembered it needed a complete rebuild that I couldn't do myself or afford to have done.
You did the right thing. More than likely it was going to become a money trap. The newer Focus will feel nimble and quick over time and be better prepared for your climate.
Couldnt drive it in the winter... hopefully the focus will do better. I drove my 06 through 12 winters always felt planted/sure footed. All season tires. You should have went for the all wheel drive escape

I also think you were smart selling as well but also think you pay too much attention to your family. It's YOUR life.
Repairs for the Mustang will indeed get worse in the future and of course more costly. You had a good run with it. Remember it fondly. If you ever return to the US, make buying a Mustang your first order of business, from getting an older 60's model to anything right up to the present. Good luck with everything.

Being that it's unpractical for you to own an older "05" Mustang GT in Sweden, I believe you made the right choice.. For your particular situation, holding onto your "05" GT would become nothing but a money trap due to having to pay more for import costs for parts, having to pay more by taking the Mustang to a specialty garage for servicing and also higher costs for fuel..In the end, I really don't think you had any other choice but to trade the Mustang in for the Focus ST.. However, if you do ever plan on returning to the U.S. make buying your next Mustang as your top priority.. Meanwhile, best of luck and happy holidays to you and your family

I'd like to thank you all for your replies. It really helps hearing your opinions. It's almost like going through a breakup....I had an attachment to that car and I'm already planning on a future Mustang....A model that is supported by Ford in Europe (2015+)
THANKS!
THANKS!

If your going to remain in Sweden indefinitely? Then purchasing an S550 Mustang 2015+ model which is manufactured and supported globally would more than likely be in your best interest IMHO.
