2017 V6 - Cold Air Intake
I have a 2017 V6 with an SCT 4X tune. I thinking about adding a cold air intake in hopes of improving mid range performance, between 2500 and 4500 RPM. Will this make a noticeable difference? If yes, what is the best product?

I expect you will get a few replies that it won't make any noticeable difference. If I was in your shoes, I think I might do it "just for fun" but I would not expect any significant gains. Your car already has a Cold Air Intake from the factory, and the factory intakes are very good these days, so there probably isn't much room for improvement, without other complimentary/supporting modifications.
You could do some research/googling to find before and after dyno curves on the products you are considering, to see if they show any real difference, and also what other supporting mods are required to get those gains; but I have a feeling they will be hard to find. That might be a fun question to ask American Muscle (do you have any before/after dyno curves that show the difference?) |

Thanks for the reply. I put a set of 3:73's in it last year, which made it feel like an extra 50 hp... With the tune, it's actually surprising for a V6. Just looking for a bit more.

If you are set on adding a cold air intake, just keep in mind that any cold air system that doesn't require a tune reflash does very little for increasing HP or Torque... Most of the performance/torque gains are the result of the remapping of the stock calibration parameters, such as the air/fuel and timing curves... Therefore, you would be far better off just getting a performance calibration tune for your stock airbox, rather than spending your hard-earned money on a non-tuned cold air intake which does nothing more than just provide eye candy...
Knowing that you already have an SCT X4 programmer, I would start out with their preloaded tunes and find out which you like best, otherwise, you can always upgrade to a cold air intake which requires a tune reflash like from either Steeda Autosports steeda.com, VMP Performance vmpperformance.com, Lund Racing lundracing.com or from JDM performance, teamjdm.com Meanwhile, hope you find the info provided as useful... |
