2005 Mustang gt hvac issue

My 2005 mustang gt blows air out of the defroster even when set to floor only, but if i switch to upper vents, or upper vents and floor, or max a/c then the defroster turns off. Also air blows weak unless i put recirculate on. New cabin airfilter already. I have 3 of these cars so i know that this one is not blowing how it should. Why would it blow air out deforster on floor setting but not on upper vents? New to these forums. Thanks

Blue and Gray, welcome.

I have not experienced the same issue with my Mustang you are having. It is possible, however, the door actuator motor or motors are just getting worn out. I've had it happen on other cars.

I'm leaning towards defroster actuator but a full diagram of the piping and the blend doors would help me confirm

Welcome Blue and Gray. I will be the first to say I don't know a lot about the HVAC system on these cars. I did have some problems with my '06 right after I bought the car. The blower motor would blow at times, then stop if I turned it up or down. It did what it wanted. I was told that it was probably the resistor that's just under the glove compartment door in the piping. I replaced it, and all was well. I have no idea if that has anything to do with your system, but thought I would mention it just in case. Maybe someone else will come along, and tell us if I'm anywhere in the ballpark. Good luck.
