1994-95 Cobra opinions
Anyone own or owned the last 5.0L Cobra? These things are getting real cheap,as are the '96-98....but i like the styling of the 5.0L better, with its smooth hood and goofy rear wing. Pros,cons.....i once read the '93 made more HP than listed, does the same apply to the SN95? Do these cars give away a noticeable peformance difference against the later 4.6 305HP Cobra? It would seem the 5.0L would be the more unique way to go for a used Cobra......is it worth looking into or does the 4.6(pre-'99) just blow it out of the water?

Exluding the year 2000, the 1995 SVT Cobra is the 2nd smallest production run I do believe. Beside it is the LAST of the famed 5.0's. If you want something that will be a collectors item in the not so distant future then I say go with the 1994-1995 Cobras. Oh By the way, if you find a cloth seated Cobra jump on it they are rare.

bah, the last of the 5.0 cars were all thrown together from whatever was left lying around at the time because the 4.6's were late to production(like every other Ford engine). Pass. Get like a 97 or something...

I'm with Brainiac on this one. If you just gotta have a SN95 with a 5.0 then the '94-'95 would fit the bill, but I personally like the DOHC 4.6s. It's a strong motor and responds well to mods.

Mine for example: Rio Red, Black Interior, Cloth Seats, only 110 were made. I got that info from the SVT Cobra Owners Association website.

Ford has been making that engine (5.0 aka 302 Windsor smallblock) since 1968, and fuel injecting it since 1986. They continue selling it even today as a crate engine... http://www.fordracingparts.com/crate...smallblock.asp
The cars were not "thrown together from whatever was left lying around".
That engine is one of the most popular, most tested, and most supported (by the aftermarket) in the history of the automobile. And, ask any serious road racer which engine (modular vs. 302) they would rather have in their car - or alternatively which one has a reputation for genading itself for no apparent reason.
I owned a 1995 Cobra (hardtop) and still own a 1996 Cobra (convertible). I got the 1996 as a dealer reparations for ruining the paint on my 95. The 95 came with 3.08 gears. The 96 came with 3.27 gears. The 95 was a tad faster (after a 2 minute timing adjustment) than the 96 (which is a bit heavier due to it being a convertible). The 96 does rev higher. The 95 OTOH felt like it was going to rip your head off (low end torque). The T5 transmission in the 94-95 cars was a bit dinky so that is a drawback.
The 94 and 95 cars are fine. In fact, I've been considering picking one up because I can fix it myself if anything breaks and get parts off of 1974 truck engines. They don't have a giant engine that takes up the whole engine compartment with enormous gee whiz head$ with chains and cams.
