Wow, not liking the next gen format at all. Switching back. Too white, plus, why can't it use all of the screen? I have two huge white spaces on either side. I know I could simply zoom in, but it makes no sense to keep a 4:3 format when basically all new monitors are either 16:9 or 16:10

^^This is what I've been writing all along!
Fill the full screen with the site. No white borders.

The team narrowed the post area because most content you read online is limited to the middle of the page. Any news site you visit will all have content centered so that sentences are about the length you read in a magazine or book and don't run on for the entire width of the page. See image below for side-by-side comparison sake and it is a bit easier to read for most when sentences don't run on the entire width.

But the side spaces being blank white space does seem to be a waste of real estate. We are working on a right rail for logged in that will look similar to logged out right rail but remove the ads and offer helpful links like "Trending Threads" or "New Articles" from the homepage.

SO,....there's no way to remove the white space along the edges?
I think most of us have spoken up about it and we all agree to get rid of the white edges. (If it can be done), I bet more people would like it some more. Thanks!

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the website and on the lower left corner, there will be options to switch back to the old school look.

"New Generation" absolutely sucks. It won't even let me log in. Hit the log in button and it sits there and does nothing. This is not a good change. No point in changing something that is not broken!

Were you trying to login using an iPhone? If not, what operating system and browser?

Hi everyone, I had a question for those of you who hate that the new layout leaves white space on both sides of the page.

I'm curious if it's something you hate because of the empty space or if it's something else. We are working on adding useful widgets to the right (popular threads, that sort of thing). The whole reason for the change in the first place was to make post content easier to read! See Nolan's comparison photo below:

Personally, I think it's fine with the borders, just shrink them a little. Maybe 1/4 to 1/2 the current width. I was on SVT Performance and TMS at the same time the other day, and they have borders too, just a little smaller.
