Hey all, im new here. I currently own a 1994 acura integra automatic, it's my first car, and im currently 17.

when i first got my car i didnt know jack, but since then ive learned a bunch about cars, and how badly 90s honda automatic transmissions are made..
anyways, i tried many times to learn how to drive a manual, but due to my disability, i am just not able to comfortably drive one. big let down to me since i was originally in to most of the japanese cars. but in my search for a fun new car that im going to buy with my own money, ive turned to automatic american cars.

ive been deciding between a grand prix gtp, and a mustang gt. I feel like the grand prix's arent very quality on the inside, at least compared to a mustang. theyre not as fast either, but they get more mpg, but they use premium.. the mustangs have a v8 (which is a positive), but get less mpg, but use regular, and are obviously faster. theyre both auto.

im most likely going for the mustang, cause its smaller and i like smaller cars, and the interior is a little more classy, imo. but i was looking at the 2005+ mustangs, and apparently they are extremely pricey to maintain. such as the timing belt costing 1000+, and auto trannies costing 4000+ as compared to the 94-04 costing 100 for a timing belt, and like 700 for an auto tranny, and cheaper prices in general. is this pricing correct? cause i was tihnking about maybe saving up more and buying a 2005 gt, but not if its gonna also cost a bucket load to maintain.

but yeah, i live in st louis and will be daily driving either of these cars. i would love some input!

Yeah, Welcome! I'm kinda disappointed no one has really answered up either. We aren't members of some elite club or anything, just Mustang Enthusiasts, and personally, I am thankful for every one that joins the fold. I want Ford to continue to make the Mustang far into the future, and this kid is who they will be doing it for. But honestly, maybe people are silent because a 17 year old behind the wheel of a powerful Mustang is... well let the insurance quote speak for itself. Not that I have a problem with a young person working hard to earn a sweet car, but you've got LIFE ahead of you man! Position yourself first, go to school, or sign up for the military, or get training in an honest trade, then worry about wheels. If you are already in that position, good for you, go for it. Just put yourself first, then reward yourself with a sweet stang. My advice is based on this, if you are in a financial position where you are counting the pennies between a few MPG's and 87 vs 93 at the pump, then a Mustang, and probably a GTP will drain you. And then... there is the insurance. Either way, I say good luck, and glad to have you here.

Hi and welcome to the TMSers! Was always a Mustang fan and knew someday I'd get one. It took me awhile though! Graduated college first and then saved for a year and got my first new car an '89 GT. Absolutely loved it!!! So go for it whenever you can afford one but be patient. It's taken me another 17 years but I'm only a few weeks away from my dream car! Good luck!

Yeah i just now heard about some of my friends insurance companies wouldnt even cover some of these type of cars... if mine wont id be let down. but id just go for a different car and wait til later on in my life to get a faster car. not sure yet, but if i do get a stang, ill come back to here.

although i cant imagine v6 gas mileage using premium would really suck me dry lol. maybe a v8 with premium would.
