I'm a 30-year car collector (including many Mustang & Shelby models) but new to the Mustang Source forum. I'm looking forward to swapping insights with members and checking out your cool rides.

Geez, every time I see or hear Texas Hill Country my mind immediately goes to BBQ. When we visited there we never experienced such incredible tastes. :drool:

The other cars are not mustangs, and therefore not relevant to this forum.

I’m also not trying to be the newbie on the site trying to “one up” everyone.

I did post a picture of my son’s Saleen Dan Gurney Mustang in one of the image forums for anyone who is interested. I’ve owned (but sold) a Saleen Parnelli Jones 302 (I bought it new in 2007), 2006 GT-H convertible, Bullitt, 1968 Shelby GT 350, etc.

However, your Mustangs and Shelbys are relevant to this site.. Also, when requested by several folks on this site if you wouldn't mind sharing some photos of your car collection, we ask because were genuinely very interested as fellow Mustang enthusiasts, otherwise we wouldn't bother asking at all.. Therefore, nobody on here would think any less of you nor get the impression your attempting to "one up" anybody by posting some images of your car collection.. In fact, we always ask all new members who join this site to share photos of their rides, because once again, were genuinely interested as fellow enthusiasts that are part of this Mustang community... It has absolutely nothing to do with attempting to "one up" anybody whatsoever.

For the Mustang historians out there who followed the original Trans Am series, here's a picture with me and George Follmer at his house 5 years ago. George was Parnelli Jones' teamate racing Boss 302's and won the Trans Am championship in 1972 (he's the only driver to ever win the Trans Am and CanAm championships in the same year). In the CamAm series, he raced Porsche 917's for Roger Penske. Before racing for Bud Moore's Boss 302 team, he was racing Porsche's and continued to race them into the 1990's -- including the 956 prototypes at LeMans (he was also a NASCAR and Formula One driver).

I flew to Idaho to buy George's personal Porsche 911 (he owned it nearly 20 years) and drove it back to Texas. The 2013 Boss 302 in the picture is one of two special editions that Ford gave him (Parnelli Jones received the other one) as they were negotiating to build a prototype George Follmer edition. They could not get the deal done, so George agreed to allow Saleen to build a 2014 version instead. I nearly bought his Boss 302 "development mule" in the picture but his grandson wanted it (race engineer, just out of college back in 2016 when we discussed it). I told George if his grandson decides to dump the car, I'm buying it. He gave me a signed copy of his book "American Wheelman" and signed a bunch of original TransAm posters that I had collected from the early 1970s -- including an original Watkins Glen poster with his #16 Boss 302 pictured.

George picked me up from the airport in the Boss 302 and at 82 years old (when we met), he could still "row the gears" like he was racing his original '69 and '70 Boss 302's -- legendary!

WOW! That's definitely one heck of a collection of 2005-09 S197 Mustangs you've got there, ranging from the 2006 Shelby GT-H (Hertz) edition, 2007 Saleen302/Parnelli Jones Edition, 2008 Bullitt Edition, along with 2007-08 Shelby GT and 2006/07 Saleen/Dan Gurney Edition.. What I'd give just to own one of those special edition S197s you got there lol... Meanwhile, thanks for sharing some of your very prestigious S197 collection :nice:

Thank you for sharing your story on how you met George Follmer, as I am indeed very familiar with the history of his 1972 Trans-AM Championship along with his teammate Parnelli Jones who also won the Trans-Am series championships in 1972 with his Boss 302 69/70 models..

I also envy you, as getting the opportunity to meet such a racing legend as George Follmer only comes once in a lifetime in addition to purchasing his personal Porsche 911 which he owned for nearly 20 years... Meanwhile, congrats and also thanks for posting an image of his 2013 Boss 302 that Ford gave to him.. Will also be looking forward to getting a look at your "68" Shelby GT350 and more down the road as well :nice:

Parnelli won the 1970 TransAm championship whereas Follmer won in 1972 (along with CanAm championship in the same year).

Note his garage picture with “CanAm72” license plates — I transferred the same on my Texas plates.

Wow,great pictures and back Story! And I did not catch the Idaho part until you posted the plates! Those caught my eye immediately, then had to re-read the your posts. Fantastic connection. Congrats on the purchase of his personal 911. Boy that 2013 Boss has to be special sweet car, is it a special color of paint? It does not look to be school bus yellow in the garage picture. Of course the first picture does look like it is school bus yellow. Thanks for posting great story and fantastic photos of your collection of the early special S197s

Thanks for the heads up, as I stand corrected... I suppose my memory just isn't quite the same as it used to be lol. Anyway, after looking at the images of George's 911 and "13" Boss 302, The passenger side door of the 911 looked awfully very close to making contact with the Boss 302's quarter panel :dunno:
