Where'd the bunny come from?

It started with a thread on the Outdoors Best forum. One of the members posted something strange, and a member replied with, "I have no idea what you're talking about, so here's a picture of a bunny with a pancake on it's head."

I know where it came from, I'm just curious when people find an old net standard and believe it just came into being recently.
His name is Oolong, he died a while back. First site to bring up to the worldwide public eye was Syberpunk which tracks odd Japanese websites. His owner still has a webpage on him with plenty of pictures.

Bunnies are nasty little rodents. They shed, chew and their goal in life:
Eat a pellet, poop a pellet.
Too bad my wife keeps one in the family room as the family pet.
