No ****?!?!?! Wow! That's terrible. I've seen him around here as long as I've been on TMS, that's over 10 years now. Sad to hear that.

Sorry to hear this Gabe! I did not know him, but your R. I. P. post on another thread hit me. I have enjoyed his posts here from time to time. Getting more info here gave me chills. He is basically not that much older than I. Kinda hits home. Really leaves a hole when the good guys leave us.

Finding out that I have to do a clutch throwout bearing in our 16-year-old 202,000-mile '03 Forester.
Original clutch, it just started an intermittent loud hum when engaging the clutch, loudest in first and reverse.

And the "easier" way to do the job is to remove the engine, not the transmission.

That’s the way I do a clutch in my Corvair. Drop the engine out of the bottom. My father and I did a clutch in one many years ago in 2 hours, 15 minutes. We were like a pit crew.

Ha, awesome.

I almost got it out today. Got the engine separated from the trans, got about a 1-1.5" gap but not fully apart yet. Seems it's hung up, driving me crazy.
I stopped at almost 9PM tonight, started about 2PM and worked slowly, took a couple 5-10 minute breaks.

Getting back to it tomorrow

Well, there is a lot more to disconnect on a modern engine. Input shaft coming out with engine instead of staying in the tansmission?

Input shaft should be staying in the transmission, I hope it does, lol.

It's out.
The pilot bearing won't turn and the throwout bearing is nice and noisy.
