Never be afraid to try. I never thought I could do shots like these either. Now I am having different organizations contact me to see if they can use my work. Hopefully some day I sell something so I can justify this crazy hobby of mine. I want to buy a full frame camera later this year. Ugh.

Glenn, sorry I just noticed your post. Here is a list of my basic setup.
Tripod
Remote trigger for the camera
macro lens (stabilization turned off)
Flash with wireless capability
Some sort of plastic or glass container
water dropper (using either syringe, IV dropper, bottle with a small hole in the cap, etc etc)
Fill the container with water and start making your drops. Focus in where they hit the surface. Then take a pic. Look at the detail in the pic and adjust your focus accordingly. I won't lie. For every good shot I have, I delete about a dozen.
It comes down to timing. Camera is set to manual mode. Shutter has to be in sync with the flash. Vary the aperture depending on the effect you are trying to achieve.

I'm sure the ability would come with practice, but I don't have the patience (or the space) for a proper studio setup either. I tend to stick with landscapes. Having said that, keep posting away, Adrenalin. It's great to see the different styles of other folks.

^^^^ Very Cool shot Adrenalin!
This is what happens when you get in a hurry and forget to check your bag. I went to the opening day game for the Rangers and the only lens I had was my 18-55 instead of my 70-300.
