Internet Issue
Anybody ever seen their internet do this? and how did you fix it?
I'm getting really frustrated by the severe lack of service from Time Warner Cable here lately. Bad cable tv service, the phone's are working right, and neither is their internet!
I'm also getting alot of red x's where pics should be as well as alot of "this link appears broken" - but if I refresh a few times it comes up normal

Welcome to the world of hughes satnet...
where they add more subscribers but don't add capacity!
lots of refreshing - esp to load pages from guys that post huge pic files (web pics only need to be 72dpi to display great & load fast).
However, I think some of it is because the US capacity is overloaded - and getting worse. My neighbor was bragging about Verizon internet's speed at first... but then a few months later it was bogging down as slow as hughes. The more people sign on for 'better' speed the worse it gets because they aren't keeping pace adding capacity to servers or pipes.

nathan, that's the brand new IE, I like IE better, so I tried the updated one, still not quite right, so it's not that

I do have a recently ne 2wire modem I no longer need model 2700 HG-E phone/DLS connections
I dunno where Gary got the idea I know intarwebs from.
*Generally* speaking, it's a malformed web page due to a timeout in receiving the formatting information. It's probably due to it also, perhaps, having a couple of frames, which is why some of the information showed up and some didn't, mainly the formatting. MSN does this on occastion too. It's rather random, and mostly the other end not holding up it's end of the bargain. Server issues, or a really bad connection... the pages today aren't being built for dial up any more...
It's possible some of your Internet Options (in IE, that is... Options in FireFox, dunno in others...) are set weird. Going through them and defaulting them might clear up the issue. Also, be sure to clear out your Temporary Internet Files **FIRST**, and THEN set it to 250MB OR LESS. It's amazing how, until 7 or 8, I don't remember, it was a percentage of your hard drive... I'm sorry, 12 gigs of Temp Internet Files is downright stupid and ugly. Even the 1024 that they reset to sometimes is too much.
Another trick is the clearing of all temp files possible in the following, using Start, Run (or equivalent)
%temp%
%windir%\temp
You'd be surprised what winds up in there, and how much.
Another issue *may* be Java. It sets it's temp file to a really dumb, really long place. I move it to C:\javacache. You'll find it's control panel in, well, Control Panel.
You might need updates to Windows and/or Internet Explorer, have you been keepin' those up?
Not a fan of IE 8, it seems to break some things at my work. I use Chrome at home for most things. However, being sure to set IE8 to force compatibilty mode in ALL web pages is a good way to ensure they all work... mostly.
It's entirely possible that there's some sorta malware skulkin' about in the computer... I'd suggest running a Malwarebytes Antimalware on it just to be sure.
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
You can click on the blue 'Download free version' button. Unless the potential offending malware is blocking it... that happens too. (**** you Internet Security 2010!!! However, I know how to kill that too now.
)
You can also opt for Trend Micro Housecall (google that) as an online scanning tool, but it takes *forever*. Still, it does work pretty well... if it takes overnight to do it...
And finally,: reinstalling/updating MDAC 2.8 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en (for XP and back... not valid for Vista)
and Microsoft Windows Script: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...6-524e7e844d81 (5.7 for XP)
if applicable. These two can cause this issue or others if they're outta whack in some way. It's rare, granted, but there.
Latest Java and Flash is a good idea. In order, www.java.com and www.flash.com
Of course, there's no real telling if any of this will help, but I throw them out there, as they're the ones I've seen with weird web page issues.
And then I get FireFox or Chrome in extreme issues... but that's been a rarity indeed.

thanks for all the info, I've checked the malware bytes scan recently and nothing came up
I'll try resetting the defaults back. It's just irritating because before 2 weeks ago, I never had a single issue with my computer other than the occasion when the internet would stop. Now this keeps happening.
