It's all cash here too. Credit cards not working for the most part especially at the gas stations. No water or eggs at the grocery stores yet but where we live, west of Asheville,it isn't too bad and we really lucked out despite all the rain we received and no power or cell service for a few days. 8" or so of rain compared to the 20" + just 50 miles away was quite a difference. We feel so bad for everyone and almost guilty that we are close to 'normal' here. They are weeks and even months away from 'normal', and for those that lost their homes, it will never be the same.
Yes we have to thank our lucky star's sometimes! We often see/read about one home surviving amongst utter obliteration of all the other surrounding homes. I wonder how that surviving owner (or I think about how and what I would do) goes about their daily business around total destruction!

Not much improvement yet with the basics here. I stood in line for an hour to get some drinking water. We have the usual water but we don't feel comfortable drinking it unless boiled. I went to Clayton GA yesterday to get some eggs and they had some but I definitely lucked out with timing. Drinking water was really short there as well unless you like paying $7 for the expensive fancy quart size stuff. Limited chicken and meats on the shelves too. Still hit and miss with the credit cards and it's still mostly cash only. Having complained about that I realize how fortunate we are here as the communities devasted so close by won't be livable for months. No power, no nothing with so many people displaced. It seems the federal gov't response has been 'sketchy' so far. The Blue Ridge Pkwy is closed indefinitely so no Fall drives for us this year. The leaves are probably gone anyway. Mt Mitchell had a top gust of 106 mph during the event. That's one of the spots we like to visit. When I was in line yesterday, the two people in front of me were from Asheville and were able to drive the 1 hour distance to get here in Franklin. Water and cooked chicken were in their carts. Tough to see but they were OK. Obviously they had gas powered cars. Imagine having an EV in this mess.

It's amazing how life just goes along. Yesterday, Saturday, in Hiawassee GA (north GA less than 1 hour from me) there was the annual Mustang show held. I've posted photos of it before. Although around 100 miles from the destruction as the crow flies,, it was business as usual. I didn't go this year or it would have felt strange.

We are good here, really didn't even get much rain at all, sorry....been swamped and dealing with back issues trying to figure out how to get the nerve pain dealt with. My lower back is a train wreck so there's bad and better but not much good.
No, this is a REALLY bad storm...the damage is going to be catastrophic. It seems people are heeding the evacuation orders but now roads are jammed up and fuel supplies are getting depleted.
