Wow, pretty cool!
I likes 80's Toyotas

I really love that style of car. light rwd coupe. i get so mad seeing the mustang keep gaining weight...they should have locked its weight at 3200lbs or less.

too bad its a toyota seeing i refuse to buy one of their cars.

If Toyota builds it I'll give it a serious look. I had an 86 MR2-first gen-and I loved it. Slick gearbox, slot car like handling, 37mpg on the freeway, and bulletproof. Except for regular oil changes it was in the shop twice, once for the 30k service and next for the 60k service.

I think Toyota builds great but boring cars. This coupe could change that a little.

Nice idea, but will Toyota go "retro" and build it with a live axle?

Live axle? Not a chance.

I think he was kidding. :jester:

I agree, though, '80s Toyotas were awesome; technology, performance AND style. I had an '86 Celica GTS. It was a terrific car that I kept for many years, and had thoughtful features that my forthcoming Mustang - 21 years later - still doesn't have.

Toyota today, though? No thanks. The FJ Cruiser is the only vehicle that they currently make that I like.

Thoughtful features such as...?

Here we go...

OK, just off the top of my head >>

- Grab handles
- Tilt AND telescoping steering
- More cubbies and storage space
- Lighted glove box
- Lighted hatch
- Power adjustable side bolsters for the driver's seat
- Hard shell backing for the front seats with elasticized storage slots on the back

It also had a fully independent suspension, better quality carpeting throughout, and better quality interior plastics 20 years ago (though I don't want to open up THAT can of worms again). :jester:
