This is a VERY cool car!! It has a lot of great history (that even includes the super manly sport auto racing) and hits the formula for an affordable sports car perfectly. Granted its not 'cool' in the same way that a Mustang is 'cool', but coolness isn't mutually exclusive..

I would love to own one of these classic Abarths ...

I took these pictures at the Masterpiece auto show last year.

Well I'm sure nothing I say will convince you Mr. Expert. But just because you say it doesn't make it true.

It corners extremely well!! My seat of the pants/total time from A to B test on the same 2 lane twisties I conquered many years with a 2000# Healey roadster with a Lotus 907 powerplant, yet with a much larger car that is over 50% heavier has less roll, more stick, quicker times. Kudo's Ford!

Why? Because you're an IRS snob? Screw that worn out rag friend. That argument doesn't go anywhere. Besides, IRS is prehistoric these days too. You're just not an experienced driver. One of those ***** nilly nervous nellies that don't know what to do with an SRA on real world roads. OMG! A bump!

And how does Sam Strano keep winning all those trophies from parking lot cone races with that crappy "couldn't take corners/prehistoric suspension" S197?

That's your opinion. Subjective for any car. I LOVE my Bullitt interior! Perfect!

That is even more absurd than your false claim the S197 "couldn't take corners with its prehistoric suspension". The 4.6 is a tried and true block. It is even more proven than the historic 289 - a truly great small block V8.
But like Colin Chaplin said, "what happens above the cylinders is more important that what happens below". Whether the 281 was used in a 2V setup, a DOHC 4V setup, the "cammer reborn" SOHC 3V, with or without a blower, cammed for low end torque or high output; 300 to 600+ HP out of that little 281 cube engine is superb (as is its big brother the 330). Street or track. And how is VCT outdated?

I like my 27mpg highway. It does better than my '10 4 banger. In fact, 27 is as good as my 2000# Healey (so efficient the 907 didn't require pollution gear) got on the highway.

The S197 platform has continued to handle better and better whether its a GT, Bullitt, Boss, or GT500. Even the mag rags have finally come around and given Ford compliments.

And many of us just aren't going back to pushrod V8 motors. OHC all the way. Ford is the only one of the big three that has continued to build fleets of overhad cam V8 engines.

Regardless, that Fiat is an ugly styled piece of crap. And you're running down the S197?? THE car that brought back the Chally & Camaro?

Don't get me wrong, I loved my Mustang and I sold it due to financial situation (my dad got sick and couldn't work so I had to help my family with bills), but it wasn't a perfect car.

The interior quality is about the same as my '05 F-150 XL, which is a work truck. Mustang got great interior in 2010+, but those before that were just cheap plastic.
My main complaint for Mustang's outdated engines is regarding 4.0L V6 210 hp engine. That's 52.5 hp per liter. A Yugo, which was based of 1970s Fiats, was making 59 hp per liter (1.1L 65 hp). 'nuff said.
Fuel economy ... Yeah, you'll get 27 mpg if you cruse at 65 mph in the 5th gear on the highway, but in city driving I never got more than 15 mpg. About the same gas mileage I'm getting from my 2.5 ton F-150.

By the way, what do people here know about Fiats to call it crap? I'm 100% sure that nobody here ever even saw a 500 Abarth in person (because it's not on sale yet in the USA), let alone drive it or own it. It seems to me that all that people know is that "Fiats are crap because they were crap in the 1980s when they were sold in the USA."
Believe it or not, a lot of things changed since the 1980s.
Do I think Fiats are really good? No, I think they're average. But it doesn't really make sense to criticize Fiats when it fact it was Fiat who saved one of Big 3s from going out of business. I guess they must've been doing something right all these years ...

I prefer American cars to any other types of cars, but that's not the reason to bash auto industries from other countries.

They're just shaped wrong.

It's like a big round cartoon guy with a narrow little pin head. And they cut the very top of his pin head off so he could park in the dog house.

No style at all.

Huh, I like the Fiat quite a bit and totally understand why it is so popular. In fact, if I wouldn't look absolutely ridiculous getting in and out of the thing (and I would) I wouldn't mind one as a daily driver at all. Of course, call me a maverick, but I also thought the 05-10 Mustang GT was a great car that brought ponycars into the modern era and which was much better than the aging, New Edge SN95 it replaced. Making myself even more of a maverick, I don't consider that an insult to the SN95 which a relatively small but rabidly loyal following of Mustang enthusiasts adore, as a car designed more than 10 years after the SN95 was should be quite a step up.

I don't hate the Fiat (great little car IMO)
I don't hate the 05-10 GT (great car IMO)
I don't hate the SN95 New Edge cars (not my favorite generation but intriguing in some trim levels)
I don't hate SVT (not nuts about the Coletti years, but I don't hate it)
I don't hate Shelby (how can I hate the man/organization that redefined performance at Ford?)
Heck, I think the Mustang II is under-appreciated (better car than it gets credit for)

I'm an outcast! I must find something to hate!
