Hi Guys,

I dont know what happened but the headliner board is falling off. its not the fabric but the board itself. I took some pictures hopeully that makes some sense. gluey thing is me trying to stick it but faling. any idea what I should do? do i need a new headliner board? has anyone else had a smiliar issue?

Welcome! I have not seen this issue before. Was your storage gargae in the desert or extreme heat? What year?

Welcome to the forums!

Yep, I agree Glenn. Looks like a hot box issue, the glue melted.

I'd recommend taking the thing out and examining the situation, then I'd see if either contact cement or trim adhesive is the answer. You may even decide to go with gorilla snot, aka 3m weatherstrip adhesive. Yellow is normal snot, black is when the gorilla's not feelin' good.

Or, and here's what I'd probably do if I were disinclined, I'd take it to an upholstery shop with a decent parts/labor warranty on their work (which will likely cost more, but you know it'll be done right as they probably don't wanna do it twice... get what you pay for situation) and let them fix it.

The problem with me doin' it is the extraneous trim panels involved to get that thing out.

You could, of course, finagle your way into that area and glue it back up, but that's a bit fraught with danger and you run the risk of messing up the headliner and/or other bits around it.

Edit: Ooh. Here's an idea. Velcro strips with serious stickum on the back. Put that between the headliner board and the roof, then mash 'em together. Solved. I'm a genius or something, praise me. PRASE ME, I said.

No, wait, don't... I'm shy and humble and don't like the attention.

For what this armchair trim guy's opinion's worth. Hope it helps, good luck and let us know!

Yup, agree with the other two. Looks like your car is a 2015+ S550. Should not have done that yet... I would also guess extreme heat and possibly humidity along with that? But if hot enough it will melt the contact materials. Looks like maybe it has been sitting in an oven? Might want to check you belts and hoses too. Maybe take a good look at your tires. door seals, etc. Basically anything that is affected by high heat.

I would point you to find a good upholstery shop. They will have the right stuff and skills to put it back to new...
