Question debby johnson

need info please.. we just bought a 2007 mustang gt. It looks and runs great but has a missing part by the automatic shifter. It also has a wire there that you have to push a button on the side of this wire with the engine running in order to remove the key when shut off. The missing part that shows which gear it is in is gone and I would guess the wire must connect to it? Does anyone know what I am talking about or what it might be called? Thank for any help.

Welcome to TMS. Can you post a picture of the shifter area?
