This is a real shame. Yet another bit of British Motoring heritage lost.

Cosworth Technology becomes Mahle Powertrain
4th July 2005

From 1 July Cosworth Technology has become officially known as Mahle Powertrain, following US engine components and filters specialist Mahle’s recent acquisition of the business from Audi AG.

Ulrich Wittwer, chief executive officer of Mahle Powertrain Ltd has admitted that the risk of dropping the well-known Cosworth name will be counterbalanced by making it easier to win work from a variety of vehicle manufacturers who might not have wished to confide confidential information to a brand associated with Audi. Mr. Wittwer hopes to announce the first customers for the new operation shortly.

Mahle Powertrain, which employs approximately 650 people globally, has UK facilities in Northampton, Wellingborough and Worcester as well as in Michigan. Under its previous name, it last year launched products onto the fast car aftermarket.

That's a shame, but Cosworth Technology is seperate from Cosworth Racing correct? The boys from Champ Car bought Cosworth Racing . . .so that name should live on. So the Cosworth name isn't dead in the racing realm . . .

Good point....never thought of that!

Truly a sad day. Speaking of old cars to look I saw a 1949 MGTC yesterday, RHD and all.

jgsmussy, dont worry, the engine building/Formula 1 racing arm is doing fine and will live on with the name, like Evil Capri said.
