Challenger Spy Pic
I cannot believe some of the comments you guys make. "Too bad it will be slow" "It will need 500hp to keep up". Geez, do some due dilligence.
I'd love to hear some facts to back these comments up. Why don't you start by looking at what SRT8's are running. Take a walk over to their website and watch the videos, and look at the time slips. Or, go to youtube.
If it runs anything like my Mag SRT8 13.02 @110.78, I'll be just as impressed. Granted, the d/a was terrific on that day, but the SRT8's run really well. I actually run better times in the SRT8 than I was able to get in my 05 GTO before I traded it for my GT. 13.23 was my best in the GTO.
Now, factor in that the Challenger will have a 6-speed, not an auto, and speculation is all we have on it's weight, but reportedly it will come in slightly lighter than the 300, Charger, Magnums. I figure a good guess is 4,000-4,100 lbs. That's still about 200lbs lighter than my Magnum.
If Chrysler lets go of the proprietary computer code so that the 6.1 is completely mod friendly, I will make the switch. I am reserving final judgement until the car is released and all the information is available
How about basing an opinion on at least some amount of reality

There is a bigger hemi that has been rumoured to augment the 425hp 6.1. They have a 426/440 c.i. hemi in development and already have a 6.4 crate motor in production producing over 500 hp.
Clearly, they plan on being competitive.

SRT8 HAHA Yeah 255 is a HUGE tire...viper isn't a car your average person can afford, ram is a TRUCK not a CAR and the prowler is dead. Where did you get yours?
Way to contradict yourself. It's not often you get someone to come right out and admit they don't know what they are talking about.
It looks good methinks. I'll still take the Camaro over it, but shoot, its nice
(And +1 to the statement on the SRT8s running fast! I saw a charger at the track the day I went, that thing was running very very low 13s. I was impressed)
If you really like the Challenger--better bring some hefty cash. The platform Chrysler chose is not one well suited to economy. In fact there won't be an entry level Challenger, since they couldn't compete price-wise with the current Mustang, or even GM's new Camaro. The Dodge faithful have been told (warned) to expect at least a $31k price tag at entry and around $50k for the high-performance editions.

When you think Challenger, don't think Mustang GT, think 300C, or SRT8, which are at $37-40K at 2007 prices. The new Challenger is being built on the same production line. IMO a 300-hp Mustang GT at $26k is a nice performance package that a large number or people can afford. A 425-450-hp Challenger at $35-40k (particularly with the cost of gas expected to rise) might not be perceived by the buying public as something they can afford. (Yes, there will be a number of the Mopar faithful that have to have the car.)
I have no doubt the premium version of the Challenger will be a solid (though hefty) performer, on the strip or street. The question remains can Chrysler sell enough of them at those prices to continue making them or is this just a replay of the Prowler/Thunderbird (niche market vehicles with no sustainable volume).

I am not a huge fan of DCX's lack of quality overall, but the Challenger is a friggin cool car any way you slice it
The legacy costs of development should not be that great considering they have it modified from an already established platform, using existing engines and powertrains. Its a halo car they can afford to not sell army's of them, unlike the Prowler.
GM wishes they were within a couple years of having a rolling mule to have show up in spy shots.

It should not be too long before we see some full bodied mules.
All I have seen is them driving Comodores around. I think it's still much more of a paper tiger then anything near production-ready. Ford never stopped the Mustang program and things were pretty much set in stone by '02.
Don't get me wrong I love the looks of it but 450 hp and 4,000+ lbs is in for a serious need to loose weight to keep up with the current trend which will undoubtably be in the 12's for the norm from the factory with freaks hitting the mid 12's. Not that it is or will be "slow" by any means because a stock car that runs 13's is pretty **** quick, one that runs 12 is blazing, but the current trend in the muscle car wars is rapidly scaling down lower by the month. Hell SUV's and trucks are regularly seeing the lower spectrum of the 13's such as the Jeep SRT-8 and Trailblazer SS neither of which have less than 400 HP (well 395 for the TBSS).
