Can my SCT-X3 tuner read codes from other cars?
Hi All, I was not sure where to post this, but figured someone here might know:
Can I use my SCT-X3 tuner, which is "married" to my Mustang, to read codes on other cars? I am not sure if the ODB2 port is universal across all brands, or if you need a brand-specific reader. A friend is having some issues with his Hyundai, so I'd like to read the codes for him; but I don't want to do any damage in the process. I was thinking that it probably won't hurt to plug it in and see if it works, but just wanted to check first, so I don't blow anything up. Thanks in advance for any related info, suggestions, or clues. PS -- we know he can go to Advance Auto (or other auto parts store) for a free scan, but if I end up working on this with him, it would be handy to be able to scan it myself |
I have used both of my SCT (X3 and X4) to read and clear codes and get ECU numbers in other Ford vehicles.

thanks Siber for the reply . . . my friend ended up going to Advance Auto to get a free scan. From what I have learned, it seems my "Ford" tuner likely will not read Hyundai codes, but I never tried it to find out for sure.

I actually used the X3 to get the ECU code on my truck to get the tunes for the X4 and I have used both to get codes off of trucks at work but they are all Ford.
