winter driving in northeast

I'm in the market for a V6 mustang and wondering if people in the northeast use thier stang during the winter months. If so do they put on winter tires.

What I'd really like to know is how much snow can the car take and still provide for safe drive. reason I ask is there are times when I could be caught out in a storm. my area gets the occational foot storm but typically its a couple of inches. Thanks

Well I can't really speak for big storms, as Philly didn't get too much last year. But in light snow it's been fine with the all seasons on. TC does it's job well.

Going on 6 years now with my 05 V6, I ran Winterforce snows on GT rims up until last year then went to studded winterforce snows (good deal couldnt pass on them) but 4 snows, couple bags of sand in the trunk and traction control=no issues.

The first year I had my 05 in a New England winter I found myself off the road in a snow ditch because the stock tires couldn't stop at all. I had to choose between the bumper of the car in front of me or the mound of snow created by a previous plowing.

This was in a flash morning near-blizzard. The next day I bough snow tires and they made a big difference.

Thumbs up Winter tires

My buddy at work has a 2005 V6 and with winter tires he claims he can go where his wife's Focus sometimes can't.
My 2007 V6 had 17" GT factory A/S tires and traction control.
It did rather well in the snow.
Of course in the deep stuff I always take a truck.

My gt in snows tires is much better in the snow than my wife's altima with economy all seasons. A limited slip diff helps keep you from getting stuck as well, I know we have them in the GT's but I'm not sure about the v6's.

Years ago I put some GoodYear TripleTreds (lol minivan tires) on my old V6 mustang. Granted that only put out about 200 hp and I'm well accustomed to bad upstate NY winters. But those tires were phenomenal for traction even in snow.
