Windshield and driver/passenger window weathestripping

Hey guys, quick question about the weatherstripping on my '07 GT. I noticed the the weatherstripping on the windshield isn't very tight and there's a section with a small gap. Haven't noticed any sort of leaks. Is this a big deal?
Another thing I noticed is the bottom weatherstripping of the driver/passenger windows. Not tight at all and water/crud gets in there. Here's a pic of the spots I'm talking about. Attachment 185834 |
That "weatherstripping" you noted at the bottom of the windshield is just a cowl trim. The windshield is glued in place, that is what keeps it watertight. The side windows aren't meant to be watertight at the bottom, water can enter there and drains out through the drain holes in the bottom of the doors. Hope this helps.

the areas you want to keep a eye on, are between the black trim and the body around the top of the door glass...theres weather strpping between them(mine oozed out on both sides by the mirrors) that keeps waer away from the plastic pins that snap the rubber in, and the square notches where the plastic snaps in... if the weather stripping fails, water runs right down the A-pillar like a downspout, dumping right on top of the SJB.
at the base of the windshield are ten rectangular plastic snap in inserts, with a crappy thin piece of foam under to sealwater out of the cowl... all ten of mine were loose as heck, and 4 had the weatherstripping visibly deformed where the thin top/bottoms had bowed out leaving open holes... you gotta pull the wiper arms off to remove the drivers side half- youll need a puller. I popped all ten out, cleaned them up, discarded the 'gaskets(joke) and used a bead of 'automotive goop' around the holes to glue them back in, its flexible and holds like crazy, dries fast... Ive heard some of the firewall wiring grommets can leak too if not properly snapped in, but Ive had my fenders off, they were fine... you can check for leaks by playing contortionist- lay upside down in the car, head under dash- have a buddy take a airhose around the door trim, and windshield base- if you hear the air blowing in, you can pinpoint what needs attention...could use the carwash same way, but probably wouldnt want to if its already dried out :) |
